[at the Ravenclaw table, opening a letter from his gran; feel free to observe his eyes bug out and his jaw drop. And then watch the letter be virtually incinerated by a look of PURE OUTRAGE.]

What!? No. Nonono. [crumples the letter, stuffs it in his bag, and continues demolishing his breakfast with extreme prejudice]

Coraline happened to glance over just in time to see the look of utter rage fall over Toshiro's face.
Yikes. She'd never seen him that angry before...not even after the Quidditch Defeat That Shall Not Be Talked About Ever.
She tried to catch his eyes so she could mouth "Are you okay?" to him.

The Quidditch defeat was one thing... they'd done their level best, it had been nobody's fault, and the Snitch made winning unpredictable anyway. He hadn't been too mad at that. This, on the other hand, was just....

..ah, and there was Coraline. He sighed, trying to control his expression as he nodded back to her. It was okay. No one was hurt, nothing was in danger, having an Auror around in today's dark times would actually be reassuring... if it had been anybody else.

"Fine," he muttered back to her. "This is just irritating."

She nodded sympathetically. It was times like this when she was glad her parents were Muggles and therefore she didn't receive letters from home that often. Which was a good thing because she was pretty sure her Mom would pester her endlessly.
She muttered dryly "Family...can't live without 'em."

He nodded absently; his grandmother had always been all the family he needed, and usually he had nothing but affection for her, but sometimes? Sometimes she drove him up the wall.

"I don't know why she would have invited her," he grumbled. "Probably she invited herself and Gran's too nice to say so." It was just his luck that the boisterous red-haired woman had managed to get on his grandmother's good side.

[He heard Toshiro all the way from the Gryffindor table, but doesn't wanna cause embarrassment to his friend by going over, he seemed weirded out enough. Instead he scribbes in the journal quickly and discreetly.]

What happened? Bad news from home?

[glances over; expression says I am facepalming so hard inside you don't even know]

[scribbles back] Annoying news. Nothing serious. Don't worry.

Yeah. Gran's got a friend coming for the holidays. Remember who came to pick me up after camp?

[the tall, beautiful Auror who... snuck up behind Toshiro and covered his eyes and went "guess who" as a way of saying hello? and made all those embarrassing squeeing noises about his very slight tan? that was her.]
