As much as the little girl loved her parents and loved having a place to call home, she hadn't realized there was as much give as there was take in having a family again. Besides, being a lady was hard work. Even with Garnet's regular encouragement, Eiko regularly railed against boring things like the proper way to greet people and spelling lessons. Hilda had prepped the little summoner for the fact that they had been interviewing guardians for her. To say that Eiko was not happy would be the understatement of the year. She wasn't a little kid! She was a lady! And she sure as heck didn't need a trumped up babysitter.

When Father arrived with the new babysitter, no guardian, Eiko was sitting on her bed cross-legged, chatting it up with a good dozen moogles. The creatures swarmed all over Lindblum, and the child made it her personal mission to keep up with each and every one of them.

Her green eyes looked up at the greeting and she offered a rather sulky, "Hi there," before pulling her knees up to her chest and resting her chin on

Auron wasn't sure what to think about this. It didn't bother him that his newest charge was a child. He had plenty of experience with Tidus. But it was the way Cid had explained Eiko. Apologizing for her before he had even laid eyes on her? What exactly was he walking into? As the door leading to Eiko's room came into view, Auron made a mental to inform Eiko no sooner than they had met that he wasn't going to put up with nonsense.

The door opened and peered at the girl over the rim of his glasses. She didn't look like much. But according to Cid, she was quite the handful. So maybe he had his work cut out for him. He did not bother with formalities. The moment he noticed the moogles, he gave Eiko a look. "What are they doing here?"

"They're my moogles," she replied simply and in a very matter-of-fact tone. Because clearly after bossing them for a year of living by herself, every moogle she ever met immediately became hers. If he lectures me about homework, I'm leaving.

About five seconds later though, she blinked and jumped to her feet, crossing the room to peer up at Auron. In her haste, she dislodged moogles in every direction and their kupos rung out in protest. "We've talked before! About singing statue summons."

He watched the moogles scatter. Yeah, those things were definitely going to have to go. Far too distracting if she was supposed to be doing homework. But he wasn't going to lecture her about it. At least not yet. He watched her cross the room and the first thing he noticed about her - aside from how young she actually was - was the horn protruding from her head.

"Why do you have a horn on your head?" He had never seen a human with a horn before and was beginning to wonder if she was some kind of hairless species of Ronso.
