Thank you -- I needed that. The "official" reviews I have looked at tend to be on the snooty side, from reviewers who really have no clue about the nature of the MCU ("what's with these infinity stones? why should I care?") and love to be negative about a sequel just because they think it makes them look so very clever.

So Bruce runs off, eh. Ha.

I may have a harder time than you to carve a space for what I like to write post-AoU, but I'm sure it will come.

I have tickets for the advance screening at the IMAX here in Ottawa on April 30 ... I will bring both my crutches so hopefully I'll get to the head of the line for decent seats! ;-)

I don't listen to the official reviews anymore. Their tastes are no my tastes.

I go see things based on whether the sections of fandom I love and trust are going to see it. Pacific Rim. Jupiter Ascending. Both movies which the critics weren't enamoured of, but they're in my headspace, sparking my interest.

So, yeah. Ignore the critics.

oh yay! somebody I can talk about the movie with! I also saw it today earlier today! Pretty much agree with most of your comments.

This is a much more sophisticated team, well developed scripted without being too bogged down with details. Scarlet Witch's interference with Tony also made a lot more sense with the origin of Ultron, I'm a bit surprise that wasn't addressed though. I suppose I shouldn't be since his character is prone to overdeveloped sense of guilt.

I was surprised the Bruce/Nat thing worked so well. Very very sad he ran off. Kept being distracted by thoughts of Scarlett Jo being pregnant while filming those scenes though...

What was hard to buy was Clint being a secret family man, but I'm a bit Clint/Phil shipper, so I might just be in denial... =)

We saw in IM3, that Tony has a gash in his psyche a mile wide - guilt and protectiveness and more guilt and overprotectiveness, so, yeah, the origins of Ultron worked for me and didn't need explanation.

See, I didn't know ScarJo was pregnant at all! (I don't keep up with the actors for the most part.) So it didn't impact. And Natasha's explanation for why Bruce matches up in my head. When you're surrounded by warriors and fighters - a man who avoids it is new. When you're a woman who flirts as naturally as Natasha does, a man who can't even see when you're laying your cards out on the table is a novelty. And there's the "monsters inside" angle, which always gets me in the feels.

Clint being a secret family man is an unexpected angle - but it works for me. Clint couldn't have come back from Loki the way he did without a strong base. And, as another friend who watches AoS noted, they gave someone else Clint's comic backstory, so he had to have something different. For me, I think, the family was a good 'trust' thing for Clint: Natasha ( ... )

Clint as a family man, and Nat and Clint as besties, was probably the highlight of the movie for me.

YES. I loved that there wasn't a jealousy thing between Nat and Laura. And that between Nat and Clint is a kind of kindred spirits thing - I have a friend who will LOVE this development, as well a bunch of friends who are all 'ARGH NO'. Which I understand - I'm kind of torn between the OTP and the brOTP for those two.

I suspect at the least Maria would have been told about it when she ascended to Fury's right hand: things she needs to know about SHIELD operatives that aren't on the books. But I kind of think that she'd have picked up that Clint had someone outside the work pretty fast, and then either gone looking herself, or been told.

Bruce/Natasha is a 'can take or leave' pairing for me - much like Clint/Natasha. There's a more physical spark between Nat and Clint, and even between Nat and Steve - but all of them are very physical people due to the fact that - as she pointed out - they're fighters. I gather that the connection ( ... )
