MOAR KETCHUP.
I wasn't sure about going to a Kishidan festival, even with Buck-Tick playing,
but when they revealed that J and Imai-san would be in the hide support band
(along w/ TETSU from D'erlanger and HISASHI from Glay), I figured we were in.
Only problem is that it was FAR- barely before Kisarazu. Not only were we on the
train for 2 full hours, the "shuttle" bus to the actual venue was a 10m walk
from the station, and then sat there for a while before actually leaving. Oh,
and they charged another ¥1000 (~$10) for the bus, too. As it was, we'd
kinda wanted to see Kishidan, but since they were opening on the first day, we
would've had to leave at around 8:30am to get there on time, and we ended up
deciding not to go until later because of reasons (which start with 'k' and end
with 'itty' XD XD XD). Ended up getting there just before BUCK-TICK's set
started, which spared us the horror of having to stand through
AKB48 乃木坂46 (some bullshit girl band with a number of members
that's
TOO DAMN
HIGH). Still cutting it a bit close, though. But anyway.

B-T's set was, obviously, short- but still interesting. They played Aku no Hana
as a "present", something they don't do all that often, I suppose, although it's
not really something I'd request. Acchan thanked Kishidan, & mentioned
they'd "done a lot of stuff with them in Osaka last year... we did
that." He led into ICONOCLASM with "Thank you, Kishidan babies", and
subbed in "5 for Kishidan babies" a few times in the song itself.

After that came Man with a Mission, whose promo pic has them all wearing
full-head wolf masks. They did their soundcheck in hoodies with masks on, and
while checking the levels, did some teases of Rage Against the Machine, and a
bit of Galapogos on guitar- and ended up doing a full cover of Smells Like Teen
Spirit in their set. They must really not want their faces to be seen, either,
since underneath the wolf masks their faces were painted completely black. And
if that weren't enough already, the screens only showed them from below the
shoulders, except for the keyboardist and drummer, whose masks were more
closed-mouthed and didn't show their real mouths sticking through. There was
even a brief moment when the cameras were focused on one of those, and another
member walked in view, and the camera quickly de-focused so the black makeup-ed
face wouldn't be visible. lolz. Oh, and props to the "extra" support guitarist,
who apparently wasn't cool/permanent enough for his own wolf mask- he kept the
hoodie & plain white mask for the whole show, and stayed way in the back
(and off camera as well- at least his head, lol).
Up next was what I'd been most looking forward to, but it wasn't quite as
expected. First there was a video intro, then the Pink Spider video. Then they
just played a bunch of live videos. Um, whut? I thought you got a special band
together just for this event? WTF? Well, FIVE SONGS LATER, there was a small
break, and Kishidan came out (so we ended up getting to see them after all, I
suppose), and talked a bit more. They immediately brought out
Tetsu,
Hisashi, and
Ken Morioka
(who looked like a male-role Takarazuka character XD), and played ever
free w/ that lineup. After that they called out J for Pink Spider, then
added Imai for Doubt, then Show grabbed hide's yellow heart guitar for the final
Rocket Dive. So that's 10 songs, 1 of which was a music video, 5 more were just
live videos w/ no live playing-along. And J only got 3 songs (and Imai only
2!)! Where is the justice in that? Margh. Oh well, I suppose nothing can be as
epic as the 無敵バンド from the
2008 hide
memorial summit. >_<;

If that was bad, though, getting home afterward was worse. First, it took
forever to get outside the gates (which were slowed even more than the usual
amount by the handing out of free tote bags- which, OK, fine, cool, thanks, I
guess). Then the line back to the buses was even farther- another 15-20m walk.
Add the wait to get on the bus, and then the time it took the bus to
get back to the station, and we would've been better off just walking
(google maps estimated 45m -_-;). So it took at least 3 hours to get home- which
is less time than it would have taken to get to motherfucking
NAGOYA. MARGH.
So, TL;DR: Good show, but too short, and WAY too fucking far away.
