Oh Bloody F**king Hell! Yep, you heard me!

My main credit card bill arrived yesterday and I was just stunned!  Oh my God!  At first I thought it was credited with somebody else's purchases, but as I scanned the "TWO" pages of purchased item's, I could remember making each and every one of them!

So I am thinking this compulsive shopping is an addiction, since the medication has greatly ( Read more... )

I understand REAL well. I'm still debating now trying to do school and work at the same time, after I talk to my adviser and find out what her recommendations are..just how painful that'll be to finishing up school in a year.

As an aside, I recommend you go look at the LJ for Popfiend...he is a very nice guy who tends to post uplifting, respectful entries. I'd say he's one of the brightest spots on LJ.

"So I am thinking this compulsive shopping is an addiction, since the medication has greatly reduced my overeating, I am compensating by spending so much money? Like I traded one addiction for another? Is that even possible?"

Um, yes, very, lol. In fact it tends to happen a LOOOT of the time... that's why folks who quit smoking tend to gain weight. They're substituting one addiction for another.

That's not to say that that's what you're DOING right now, but if you're seeing your credit card bill go up in proportion to your weight going down, that may be an indication that you've switched addictions.

Unfortunately I'm not sure how to fix that. Tha'd be something to discuss with the nice therapist. :)

Well I think I just have to grab hold like I did with my overeating. Sure the medication has helped the most, but I just have to channel it for my shopping binges. And I think seeing the bill last night really woke me up. So, I am not buying anything for 30 days, and after that I have some dvd movies I am looking at, I may buy 1 or 2, but I will use my debit card for now on, and I know it's coming out of my checking account, so I obviously know I can only spend so much no matter what.

I think without having a large amount of money to charge on, I wont have as much trouble breaking this shopping routine.

I took my cards out and put them in my safe, except for the debit card, so one step at a time.

Talk to you soon,
Love you,
Gregg

Maybe not so much an addiction, rather that I see things I can use, and then I only want the best of them, and well, shopping is kind of fun. I love grocery shopping too, I am always real stocked up. But my therapist said that I am "hoarding" food and that is typical of someone with a compulsive eating disorder, so I don't know what to think.

But I didn't buy anything last week, and I am fine, no withdrawal symptoms. LOL

Still better than a drug addiction, but maybe that's my rationalzation.

Hope your day is good.
Love you,
Gregg

lol, I'd say it's better than a drug addiction. And you know, as long as you can identify something and find a way to cope with and control it, that works. Heck, I have my own addictions definitely. Some of them I don't bother trying to control that much, and some of them (like my addiction to jumping into the middle of fights I know I don't need in my life, lol) I am learning how to control.

I ain't mad atcha tho... I LOVE shopping, LOL. I would do a heck of a lot MORE shopping if I had the money!! =D

I finally got all my credit cards in a lock box. All the apr and daily rates are going way up.

I really just wish Oprah would hand me like 10k and I would be fine and back on my feet haha.

We ALL want Oprah to hand us like 10k. If only that worked. :)

I noticed that on my statements too. But I did removed the 2 credit cards and left the checking account debit card, as I know I don't have much money in that. (sigh).

Remember when Oprah gave away all those cars? I would sell mine and pay off my debts and have a lot leftover.

But that is never going to happen. And we get no pay raises this year either.

Yes, where's Oprah when I need her generosity. Remember when she gave her audience members a new car? LOL
