Firehose

Stephen was joking with me that Ben is like a firehose when he nurses. It's as if the milk is coming out at such a high velocity that he is wiggling all around as it shoots down his body and all the way into his toes. This is, of course, ridiculous, but still funny. Actually, the milk doesn't come out very fast at all anymore, must to his dismay ( Read more... )

I thought for sure we would wean at 1 year old..but then once I gave up the pump, I was happy to continue nursing...but yea all that wiggling around, sticking his foot in my face, playing w the other breast - it is all getting kind of old. I am not too sure how much longer we will continue to nurse...but yea, I think I am getting to the same point you are too.

And I cannot believe that Ben can talk so well!! What a doll =D

oh man, he talks like crazy. he's started saying "no" recently though, that i'm not too fond of.

the feet in my face is actually something that's partly my fault, as I tend to kiss and tickle them. and i've never let him play with the other breast, at all, because it drives me batty. but he wriggles and squims and twists and turns and sits up and lays down and fold himself in half and shoves his feet inside my shirt and i'm seriously burning out big time. i don't want to cut him off cold turkey, as that would be harmful to both of us in the long run. but i think its a sign that i have too much going on in my life that it bugs me so much. sigh.

i really want to make it until his 2nd birthday before i start actively preventing/distracting him from nursing. after that, i'm going to try don't offer don't refuse first, but knowing my baby, he'll probably need more of a push than that :-)

Rosemary picked up "no" much earlier than I would have liked her to. She just has too many cousins who they say "no" to her all the time. Plus, we say "no" to our dog a lot, so I'm sure she picked up on that a little. But in that instance, she never said no to us, just "No, no, Owen."

I've been trying to make the word "yes" more interesting lately, because she says "no" an awful lot.

ben won't even say yes. "ben do you want more berries?" gets "no berries" or just "no" or "more berries" or just "berries!" we tried to get him to say yes, and he'll repeat it after us once, but then when we tell him to say yes please, he just says "peese!!!!"

I didn't even make it through 2 hours breastfeeding. It just never seemed to work.

i'm sorry to hear that. it can be really really hard in the beginning, and unfortionately, most hospital nurses don't care much one way or the other and don't have the training to really provide the advice and support that a lot of new mothers need. i'm glad to hear that you tried though :-)
