Holy cow. One wakes up at 5 am and faces THIS. After surviving by just one vote. Whew. Well, I choose the overton window. Not really knowing what I am doing here but, yeah. And now to think about who likes me enough to write a story for me. In English! In Livejournal! Going to be an interesting week, this, for sure!
If you're willing, I would be very happy to introduce you to my Dad, a 6-time published author, who would be absolutely fascinated by your life. He's been sort of keenly interested in what LJ Idol is for a few weeks, ever since I wrote a story that was of interest to him, and this would be a good way for him to get his feet wet in it quickly, without too much commitment. He would be writing for me, if I was competing, but I bet he would enjoy just as much meeting someone new virtually as well as writing here for you. I am speaking out of turn, of course, as I haven't asked him yet, but I am willing to, if that is of interest to you.
Looks like I've got Curb Cut Effect. I'm good with that, I think. Before I realized that everyone had already picked I thought that I would post and say I'll just take whatever no one picks, so I guess it worked out!
Question regarding the Re-Do portion, because I have some thoughts but those thoughts really feel like they're on the wrong track:
Does "re-do" mean "re-write" or "total do-over"? Like, do we pick an entry that we thought was weak and redo that entry with the same exact subject material and just... try to do it better? Or do we pick a topic we thought we had a weak entry to and do a completely new and original piece for that topic? I ask because I feel like one of my weaker entries was from an Open Topic week, but it seems a little too easy to just say, "Oh I want to re-do Open Topic," and just write a completely new piece.
Or is it that we can re-do a topic other than an Open Topic, or that we can re-do an Open Topic but we just run the risk of not having a good comparison between the two pieces?
Obviously I’m not Gary, but I read it to mean you could take any of the topics including Open, and write something totally new. It does include topics you took a Bye on, I asked.
I don't remember for which topics I have taken my byes! I remember that at least one was something I'd have liked to write for but was totally swamped, work wise. Hm. I guess I have to go back through the community archives! Or is there another way?
...though, the one I'd love to see you get the chance to redo would be our intersection, so that the circumstances of my world in that moment didn't have to influence what you would write this time around.

The question of course is if someone DOES take the "take another shot at an Open Topic" will it be seen as a clever work-around or a "cheat?"
Obviously, it's not an actual cheat. But you know how people are. Everyone has their little rules and check marks. :)

Week 7 - FECKLESS
and
Week 12 - FAILURE
...though, the one I'd love to see you get the chance to redo would be our intersection, so that the circumstances of my world in that moment didn't have to influence what you would write this time around.
Week 23 - LIVE YOUR HORN
Also, not that you asked for anyone's opinions, but if an outside perspective would help, my favorites of yours were:
Week 5 - FRIENEMIES
Week 14 - BARN RAISING
and
Week 28 - SAWUBONA
...for what it's worth. ;-)
