When did your parents stop disciplining you?

When I was 20....my dad grounded me for two weeks, one summer when I was home, for staying out all night, and not bothering to check in. His reasoning was he paid for my school (no loans), he paid for my rent, food, car, fun, etc....therefore, he was still allowed to ground me. And I totally agreed. ( Read more... )

My parents used to ground me for months at a time. I was pretty bad as a kid - drinking, smoking weed, fighting, having sex.. just bad in general. Then on my 16th birthday they were just like "We're not going to ground you anymore! Be good!" it was pretty weird, for me.

Yep, until I was about 19ish. So, I don't really know what they were thinking. I think they were just sick of dealing with me, hah.

Grounding when I moved out, so at 18. Hitting, when my mother realized I could and would hit her back.

Depends on your definition of "discipline". I agreed to submit to a certain degree of authority until I was 23, at which point I was done with college, employed, and had my own house. Prior to that, as long as I was getting any financial assistance whatsoever (mostly in the form of health insurance on my dad's plan), I had to, basically, take advice from him.

If you mean like actual punishment discipline, I think I got my last whipping at 13.

Yeah, I would say the last time I was spanked was when I was 13. That and I was already like six inches taller than my mom at that point....

It didn't matter for me. There's no way I'd EVER bow up at my mom. I remember the day my dad explained to me that I was too big to spank, so from there on out if I ever disrespected my mother, it'd be me and him in the backyard with the 6-oz training gloves. I had no doubt he'd do it, either.

Hahaha, go dad. My dad never spanked....he was just into the whole take EVERYTHING AWAY form of discipline.

I probably stopped getting punished before I moved out to go to college. I was acting more like an adult and after that my parents didn't bother because they didn't know what I was doing most of the time and I didn't live with them. When I moved back in with them for 8 months they still yelled at me, but I didn't get grounded or anything.
