Took my camera along with me while running errands downtown....thought with this being
Pride Week that there would be some colourful window displays at all the stores to photograph!
First stop was the
Yonge & Bloor hood where the
Holt Renfrew window display's celebrated other Summer activities rather then show any support for Pride.
Not as elaborate as their X-mas windows but enough fodder to write a commentary about!
(excuse the reflections on the pics, the sun was in the wrong position when I was there)
Upon closer inspection most of the props are made out of construction paper...seems rather cheap for such a high end department store (but then they probably just blamed the recession for doing that)
I called the display "Summer at Paper Beach"
Is this what Toronto's Elite wear for swimming at their
Muskoka cottages?
"Don't mind me ladies, I'm just the Official Muskoka Skirt Inspector!"
Can't help but feel that there is also a slight voyeuristic theme also happening here!
Ditto
"Oh please don't throw the ball over my hair...my nanny's not here to catch it for me!"
"At least paper ice cream is non-fattening!"
Across the road
Williams-Ashley had a display that was totally NOT about Pride either.
It for the National Ballet's recent production of Alice...which
doc__holliday & I had planned to go see but it never happened due to our schedules.
Apparently it was a sell-out so hoping that they will stage it again soon so we can go see it!
Still, an interesting way to cross-promote things...does going to the ballet compel anyone to shop for fine china????
Then down south along Yonge St to see what we could find to photograph....
Men floating with rainbow balloons at Le Crapeau & a basic-but-colourful display at KSP
The Hemp Company & Propaganda window's were showin' their Pride
The adult shops had great deals for those who wanted to get Ducked for the occasion!
Piercing your body with Pride & fun tee's for all....but that's not all!
I was also distracted by other windows featuring:
CANDY!!!!!!!!!!!
A play I'd like to see when it comes to town!
Boots!
Oh the temptations along
the longest street in the world!
At this point I had to get a move-on down to Queen St (to hit the jewellery supply store) before hooking up with my pre-meeting dinner date.
Oh and the Bays windows were very boring....one promoted the Indy racing, the others just had signs (no mannekins or anything) announcing that the Top Shop was available on the 3rd floor (yawn!) Sadly so lacklustre I wasn't even bothered to snap any pics.
The Queen streetcar was taking forever so after waiting for 20 minutes I got up and started walking.
As I approached Queen & John, I thought I'd caught a Drag Show from behind.....
...but no, it was a group of parade dancers promoting the
Caribana festival!
Awesome costumes though!
No Prode but Patriotic tee's instead at
Bang-On I couldn't resist snapping a pic of this bill board ad:
Ewwwwww.
It might as well say "Wreck a fine craft beer & your stomach at the same time!"
The
Silver Snail window celebrated a different type of Pride....
...the type that is "More then meets the eye!"
A crazy collection of Transformers toys, both old & new!
I'll admit that I still have the ones from my childhood in storage....how could I get rid of them?
Best toys ever!
So we end Part 1 with a total Nerd-Out...stay tuned for Part II!
