In quiet and in peace, things come back to haunt him.

Not so violently as they did (before) but still they hover over his shoulder with the insistent prickle of memory just out of reach, and when he reaches for them they always sting. It's always the quiet that does this to him, and it's why he hates silence, avoids it.

She never forgot that flower either, or that knife - but the flower died thousands of years ago, and the knife lies in a dusty room, in Valinor, or perhaps in her father's keeping.

Galadriel is quiet when she sees Celegorm sitting on the porch.

"You always are," he says, still quietly, "And I wonder if you always will be, even though you don't have to." He wants her to understand that she doesn't owe him anything, or something like that. Tyelko isn't sure he completely understands how his cousin's mind works.

He squeezes her hand, though, when she takes his, and then inches a little closer. "It's a quiet night," he says, after a few moments, eyes far away. "It's like there's nothing out there."
