I second this. I don't even think its cute or acceptable when you're 15. One reason I HATE playing my MMOs anymore is due to this. People don't even spell whole THREE LETTER WORDS anymore. r=/=are unless you're text messaging and have a limited amount of space.
When I still had a guild in WoW I refused to accept anyone who used e-speak or lol-speak.
Well, as someone over 30 who does use lolcat speak? I use it as a joke. That's it, really. Occasionally it's amusing to emphasize a point using the lolcat speak, and when I find it funny to do so, I use it. But as an all the time every word every sentence thing? Naaah. That just gets exhausting and boring. The English language is such a lovely cornucopia of expression, nuance, and meaning, I would be a sad monkey if I didn't use my 50 cent words. But part of the joy and wonder that is the English language is that it's always adapting and creating its own dialects - it's a living language that adapts as the speakers adapt. There are every kind of dialect out there in English, from surfer dude, thug life, Appalachian, to lolcat - one is not better than the other and they all have their place. As long as the original language is also known and used.
I'm a big believer in knowing the rules, so you know when to break them. ;)
