Laine's requests for ways to celebrate her birthday had been simple. A day without having to fool with anything in the kitchen. Laine had taken an almost childish glee in the ability to close the door to the master bedroom that afternoon and block out the sounds of every and anything going on in the house. She ignored Harvard's whining at the door until the dog found someone else to annoy and she refused to go investigate when the tell tale smells of someone cooking something began to waft upstairs. And though she was grousing, she was eating because the meal was good and she really did want to enjoy it. After a few more bites she set her fork down and picked up the jewelry again, playing with the pendant. "Looks just about as blue as the sky, don't it?"

Polishing off his last bites of salad, he nodded at the pendant. "I thought he might do something enameled, but instead he suggested that stone. It's called larimar."

Once it was fastened, he glanced over Laine's shoulder at the flash of silver and blue just above the soft swell of her breasts. Angling his head, he softly kissed her cheek and throat. "Happy birthday, grá mo chroí."

Laine played one hand over the pendant resting against her chest as she continued to eat, not usually one to fiddle and fidget but then she wasn't usually one to wear much in the way of jewelry either. It would take some getting use to, having this around her neck all the time.
