Their explorations of the house had been interesting, to say the least. )

Instead, there was something decidedly unsettling about this place, although she could not pinpoint the reason for her feelings. Jack seemed enthusiastic enough about the place, and so she had kept quiet, trying to ignore the feeling that maybe whatever was in the fireplace wasn't shy but predatory, that the shadows had extended a hand to drag her under and she had simply been too far away for them to do so, that the ghosts were silent in an eerie way, and not just a rude or aloof one.
But it had to be her imagination. After all, this sort of thing was Jack's element--was all of Halloween Town's, really (though she had always been a bit out of place there).
But still... "They're all very quiet, aren't they?"

There was more to him than met the eye, Jack could just tell. He couldn't be that young--might look like a trick-or-treating aged boy, but that one certainly wasn't--and wasn't that the cleverest costume of all? Jack laughed and grinned, heading over to investigate. "Why, hello there! Is something the matter?"

With that in mind, he stepped out from behind the chair, his clothing repaired through the magic of the same nanotech that had healed most of his wounds, his guns still almost empty, and got a better look. A talking skeleton and a... rag doll? Interesting. "Yeah, something's the matter. Things keep trying to kill me!" Okay, so maybe he wasn't the calmest person in the room right then.

That was very much not like Halloween Town. Sure, things were frightening, and sometimes people got over-excited, but it was all in good fun--except for people like Oogie Boogie, who weren't worth mentioning.
This was not Halloween Town, Sally realized. This was something scarier.
She hoped everything would be okay. "A-are you sure?"
