There is some science behind the set point, but my understanding is that it takes quite a while to reset the set point, it may be related to fat intake, and it doesn't mean you can't gain weight, just that it's slower. I do think some people have metabolisms that adjust more than others, too. And yeah, part of me really does want it to be so! I think my biggest issue is thinking "I'll splurge on sweets, just this once..." and then that becomes a couple of times a week, and then every day.
Anyway, good luck! I'm doing a lot of weighing and measuring lately myself.
I'm wary of some science backed food claims, cause many seem to contradict each other. Others seem to contradict what worked for me (some studies claimed exercise can't help with weight loss and that it only makes you hungrier.) It's sometimes hard to tell which studies have been done right and whether they absolutely imply what they say they do.
Maybe there is something to the set point, but it just sounds too good to be true. Also, it's not like I hit my target weight and started splurging. I was eating the same stuff and still exercising just as much. It's just that I wasn't as careful about measuring calories every time. Just a tiny bit of slacking and I jumped up six pounds.
Got to not get too upset and rally a bit till the pounds come off.
