We giggle, because we love

So I was talking about how The Gift has some of the worst continuity that BtVS has possibly ever seen and it got me and others talking about moments in Buffy and Angel that are so bad or dumb that at this point you can't help but look back on them with an indulgent smile ( Read more... )

It might be some total fanwanking, but I was always under the impression that the whole "The blood opens the portal, the portal closes when the blood stops flowing, it'll never stop.." ect, wasn't about, you know, stopping the bleeding IE stitches or pressure or bandaids, but because, you know, it flows in the veins...Until your dead. heh.

That's not to say that the show has never has truely spectactular moments (IE the water tourture, which I fanwank as "Spike LIKES to breathe, damnit!"), but that was just my orginal thoughts. The fact that Buffy's blood is Dawn's blood? Eh...She looks more like Faith anyhow...

Oh yeah, I'm sure that's what they were going for. It's just that when it's surrounded by so much bad continuity and sloppy canon you can't help but giggle at them not taking a second or two to make it clearer. Especially since it's not like it was a minor plot point ;)

I've always fanwanked the Spike water thing as it being diluted Holy water. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Which is much, much better than my "It's torture, ya know, because he enjoys breathing so much! Just look at how much he talks!". But I'm sure the only reason they did it is because it looked cool. Heh.

WEll, you know, needing to breathe or not it can't be *comfortable* to have your lungs fill up with water. I mean, ya know.

How about the amazing healing powers of human, non-slayer types?

Giles getting skewered in Spiral by that enormous lance and being near death, and then in a matter of a day or so being able to run about and fight Glory's minions at the tower.

Also, Wesley pulling his stitches and being wheelchair bound and unable to move without a great deal of pain and effort, and then later on that evening he's bending and moving around quite easily when he's de-oculating Cordelia.

And of course there's Xander's amazing ability to survive being hit with the hammer of a troll-god....

And staying conscious when hit at Slayer-strength with an iron skillet.

Also, the kick-ass insurance/ Giles's private fortune that pays the BAZILLION ER bills. And the fact that Social Services never stopped by any of those houses before, with the number of times those kids were in and out of the ER.

Best 'Wes is indestructible' moment was the prison break in S4 - not only did he land on the car hard enough to crush the top, but he also got squished by Faith landing on top of him, then walked away no problem. :)

The whole confusion about Spike's sire.

And as far as I can remember, the only adult who was ever shown being suspicious (in the statutory rape sort of way) about the amount of time Buffy spent with Giles? Was the werewolf hunter who saw them for about four seconds. Not her mother or any school officials. I fell off the couch laughing.

Ha! You know I never thought of that but you make a good point.

And he stands *way* too close to Buffy and Willow in the early seasons, at least in the early seasons.

Okay, this thread is eating my brain. You are clearly ev0l, and therefore soulless. Wait...

The one-Starbucks town that had its own museum, zoo, military base, and university. Docks and an airport. Wow, Mayor Wilkins should've been commended for his good city planning.

How Buffy was hired as a counsellor at a high school with no creditials or experience whatsoever.

Oo - you remind me of another favorite of mine. When Warren needs to get out of town quickly and instead of taking one of those buses or planes he... runs. Because apparently he's the Flash now.

The one-Starbucks town that had two colleges, actually. Remember Crestwood College from Reptile Boy?

Troll God. The Troll Hammer of Doom thing (WHY does this affect Glory again? WHY?)

The Scythe of Plot Contrivance. (It's been there all this time with that old woman? And she's been what? Watching Days of Our Lives? None of the other Huge World Ending Apocalyptic Things woul dhave benefited from her help?!?)

S6 Buffy spending episode after episode whining about how they have no money yet never wearing the same outfit twice.

Anya the Vengeance Demon doesn't have a soul, does have a soul, does not...we have no bloody idea. And if she does have a soul, it doesn't matter anyway.

The First has a plan. (NO IT DOESNT). The First is incorporeal. (EXCEPT WHEN ITS NOT).

Giles Might Be The First! (And certainly NOTHING to do with the fact that we dont know what to do with Tony Head! Oh no!)

That entire "Buffy just has a cell-level tan" thing. Oy.

None of the other Huge World Ending Apocalyptic Things woul dhave benefited from her help?!?

That reminds me of another one: the Powers care so much about Buffy's Thanksgiving that they send a vision to Angel to make sure she has a happy one, but when it comes to things like dealing with the First and Buffy's own death... meh. They're sure she's got that covered.

I just like that Thanksgiving is an important holiday to the Powers. Do my random cravings for cranberry sauce mean TPTB are trying to get in touch with me?
