What a week...

Long time, no see, eh?

Had a spot of trouble with my computer this past week, repeatedly doing the dreaded Blue Screen of Death on my display driver. Thank goodness I had my iPad to pick up the slack while the comp was misbehaving. Finally ended up having to roll back the driver as well as shutting off Windows Aero (while cute, it's overrated, so no ( Read more... )

Boo to failing computers! I can't wait to get mine back (this one, my old one, keeps freezing up on me *grrrr* ). A word of advice though - don't throw out your old one. While it might be appealing to beat the shit out of it, they do come in handy when the new one breaks down ;) Plus they're handy as a file backup (even if the keyboard doesn't work properly).

Heh! The scary thing is, I only got this computer two years ago, so it's really not that old. It works great... except when you run anything really graphics-intensive that makes excessive demands on the video card. And it was a really top of the line card when I got it. So annoying.

I figure I'll just run this one into the ground for as long as I can, then get a Mac. :P

You already know what I think about the Mac. You'll never be sorry. I'm having a bit of a SBBoD problem right now, but that should clear up with the new OS that's coming in another month.

And I remember you commented recently about having trouble with c/p on the iPad. I accidently conquered that. If you want to be tutored, I can try to recreate my actions. LOL

We watched the pilot of Falling Skies and liked it very much. Good characters, humor, action...all our requirements. And I always liked Noah Wylie. We were intrigued when the Wash Post called it "mindlessly patriotic" or some such drivel. LOL They seemed to think they should try to negotiate with the aliens.

All hail Lion! I've been hearing lots of good stuff about it. And gee, Mac OS upgrades are only $30? Compared to paying over $100 for OS upgrades in Windoze? Sold. :D

I did manage to figure out c/p on the iPad, it's just that it's so much more tedious when you don't have a mouse. ;) Which brings me to my other pet peeve, trying to get the cursor to move up or down through a block of text. It's rather handy when writing a big post on GW and you want to go back and massage a line or two. Can't do that on the iPad... at least, I haven't figured out how. The lack of directional keys is annoying.

Falling Skies... looks like last night was more or less setup for next week, judging from the preview. Holy Smokes! That bit with Noah Wylie's character dragging the injured skitter back to base with him reminded me so much of the scene in Independence Day where Will Smith was dragging around the alien in his parachute that I totally cracked up. Too funny!

I miss the arrow keys too. I Googled it and learned that the little magnifying glass is supposed to work as well, but I haven't tried it yet. It's very frustrating especially on GW when trying to get to the end of a quote so you can reply. And everything is so sensitive it's frustrating to work with.

I finally broke down and got a stylus to use with my iPad because of the sensitivity issues. I'm currently using the Pogo Sketch by Ten One, but Wacom has just come out with their own stylus modeled after the ones they make for their Bamboo drawing tablet line. Considering that Wacom basically owns the drawing tablet market, I imagine it's pretty good.

I've gotten the magnifying glass to work by holding my finger/stylus down on the screen and slowly dragging it across the words I want to highlight, but it's still tedious. Having a mouse has spoiled me. I don't even like trackpads on laptops. :P

It has been pretty slow. I think they're still introducing the major players and some of the background before we really start getting down to business. A couple of the preview trailers TNT was running showed clips of what looked like the actual invasion, so I'm hoping we'll get some flashback scenes soon to flesh things out a little more.

The show airs on TNT on Sunday nights, so I'd guess episodes may be available for download by Monday afternoon/evening in your timezone. ;)
