LAX Stargate Con, November 2010

Nov 15, 2010 06:59

Okay, so the con report's a week late. Hey, at least I got to it! :P

Last week I drove out to LAX for Creation's annual Stargate convention, which was being run alongside conventions for Farscape and the Whedonverse (Buffy, Firefly/Serenity, etc.). Let's face it, I'm shallow. I went to see Joe Flanigan, so let's get right down to business.

Lonnnng trip report ahead! )

joe flanigan, stargate atlantis, fandom

Ooo, thanks! Great report!

On the Disney World thing--interesting story. We work with a lot of schools who have tight security and somehow this story filtered down to us because of our connections--that following September 11, the order was given to tighten security on all the major airports and government facilities. Most of the public knew about that, but what they didn't know was that that report also included two businesses that were considered 'icons' of American entrepreneurship and the American spirit--Coca-Cola and Disney. So both those businesses went on super-lock-down, sort of under wraps, following that. Coca-Cola headquarters in Atlanta is under tighter security than Fort Knox. And Disney does everything 'underground' but it's still there, just behind the scenes, which is apparently what Joe saw. :D

*nods* Yeah, I had also heard through my Disney fandom connections about supposed no-fly zones over Disneyland and all. Not surprising, really.

Heh, the con was great, even with not being able to stay the whole time. I hope Joe comes back next year! :D

Great report. Joe loves Torri! Squeeeee! (Not like that you RPS fools.) And you know that the head butt story has me ROTFLMFAO. Head lice! OMG!

Who says Republicans can't be free spirits? I think, like Mr. SR and I, Joe has a libertarian streak a mile wide.

Who says Republicans can't be free spirits? People who like to think within tightly set definitions? No, really folks, people are not that simplistic. Even if you don't agree with their political views.

AW JOE. Still the best! <3!!! I just love that he acknowledges the great working relationship with Torri and agree with you, they need to do a new project together. they're just too good together on screen.

*hugs* I'm glad you had good time!!!

I'm glad I had a great time, too! I'm hoping next year will be even better... c'mon, Creation, put Joe and Torri on stage together! *clappy hands*

*dies laughing* So very, very true! :P

OMG, I still can't believe Joe went into such detail about his dislike of the whole 'head butt' thing. Clearly, he's thought about this in some detail, LOL!

Who says Republicans can't be free spirits? I think, like Mr. SR and I, Joe has a libertarian streak a mile wide.

Right on! *high-fives*

Thank you for the awesome con report! Oh Joe, he always looks like he just rolled out of bed, but it's so adroable and effortless. *grins*

Hihi, they should totally film SGA on that yacht and find Elizabeth on a remote island. *lol*

Naked. As in, she ascended way back in Lifeline and now she's mortal again. I'm sure John would like that. Heeheehee! :D

It's always fun reading con reports. Not as fun as actually being there, of course, but the residual fun is there. ;)

I love that he's still all "screw you" re: Atlantis' PTB and has good things to say about Torri.

Thanks for sharing!

Oh goodness, the residual fun is always delicious. I sure had a blast reading all the reports coming out of Chicago about Flanigan and Hewlett running amok. Good times!

Joe's habit of telling it like it is, even if it's bad, is one of the things that has totally earned my respect for him as a person beyond his work on screen. He really does give a damn about the fans and his fellow cast members. I wish they made more like him. :)

It's heartening to see that he's still down-to-earth, even with all the fangirls and all. ;) I just hope his straightforwardness doesn't cost him any jobs or anything, 'cuz that'd suck.

Well, something tells me that we don't need to worry about Joe losing out on any jobs. From the sound of things, he's still able to pick and choose projects he likes at his leisure. Win-win for everyone. :D

I know! I gotta tell you, I was kinda surprised that he was so firmly against it. On the other hand... ;P
