Need your help

Hi!

Not sure what I should do here... I know I've been getting a few new readers and I want to make the "integration" as painless as possible. I know this story is massive, even if you just read Generation 3 chapters.

I was, originally, going to do a synopsis every fifty chapters. I felt it was a nice round number, and I wasn't planning on doing ( Read more... )

I think, waiting every 50 chapters isn't a bad idea but to keep everyone (new readers) up on what's going on, just do a mini synopsis like you're telling a friend what happened on the last episode of Law & Order, without telling them everything that happenes so there is some surprised when they read it. I hope that makes sense.

For my stories, I try to do it that way. I include bits and pieces just explain the meat of the chapter but make sure I don't give away everything so they have a reason to read it.

I honestly don't mind if you go to Chapter 200 but after a while it might be easier for you to just do it by generation. Whatever you do, I'm still reading :)

I would wait until after the pregnancy drama is over, and then do a mini-synopsis of some kind. There is rather quite a bit of material to sort through, after all, and Gen 3 is pretty long, compared to the first two.

As for how you got things set up as chapters, I'm fine with it.

I think you're right, IG,.. I'm probably going to finish up the pregnancy drama (since I'm close to closing it out) and then I will stick another synopsis in there.

Thanks for your response, I really appreciate it :)

If you intend to continue with the Generations, that will drive the organization. In other words, if this is going to continue to be a legacy, it would make more sense to do some sort of brief synopsis by Generation instead of by chapters. However, this Generation is long and complex, so maybe you could begin the Gen 3 synopsis and update it when you're done.

SB I think you're right about the generation thing. I'm definitely planning to extend this to each generation, so I've been looking for a new way to label everything. As for the synopsis, someone pointed out that since gen 03 is so much longer than the other two that I should just do a synopsis whenever a huge plotline has happened. If the last twenty chapters were light on plot, then just group those in one, and if the next five chapters after that were really heavy on plot, then do one then, as well... etc. So I think I'm going to wait until all of this drama is carried out, then do another synopsis (since I'm only a couple chapters away from closing out the current drama)

Thank you for the input, though. You've really helped me to decide. :)

I chose 'other' for favourite character, because I don't want you to withhold being mean to anyone XD I just mean that I like the drama and perhaps the "bad" stuff, it makes some awesome reading.

I am going to add a comment here with regard to chapters. I voted for the Generation idea mainly because...you have generations. If you are going to continue in that vein then I think it makes sense to break it down like that.

And then do a synopsis by generation although your writing is so good and so compelling and all your characters so endearing that I don't know why anyone would object to reading the whole thing. Even so, a summary of the events that each generation faced is good.

Thanks, Gayl! I think I am going to work on a new system to split the generations up a bit.

I like the idea of doing a summary of each generation, but since gen 3 is so much more developed from the others, I think I'm going to do synopses based on whenever there's a huge plotline that evolves. But thank you for your input, this has really helped me!!
