Quarter of a Day

Dear Wagner, I would love to give one of your operas a try. I've heard so much about you. Mostly, scary things. But your opera? It is six hours long. *stare* That's almost an entire work day! That's riding the train to from Richmond to NYC! That's . . . a lot of hours! My butt would go numb trying to sit through your opera. So now I will ( Read more... )

Heh. Margaret D LOVES Wagner. Dude. She goes for the long operas and festivals. Multiple six hours sessions. Over and over. Different ones, same ones, it doesn't matter. Her ultimate goal in life is to go to the Beyreuth Festival...people have to DIE so that the waiting list can be gotten to.

*shakes head*

Length's the reason why I didn't go to Tristan & Isolde in the end. 5:20 h on a weekday evening is just not doable. But one day, I will see a bloody Wagner and if it kills me. I think there's a Parcifal coming up in the next months.

You know, there's an open air festival in Germany, that's entirely Wagner. Three days, all parts of the Ring... I imagine this could be nice, having a picnic and listening to the opera on the side.

We should go together and then we can kill each other when it becomes too much. :P

I'm of your opinion though, and so I actually started wondering yesterday whether I shouldn't go to the opera. It's not every opera house that puts on a 6-hour Wagner and if I'm going to see one shouldn't I see it here at the Met? I mean, I wouldn't have to stay for the entire thing . . . *facepalm* I'm such an indecisive mess.

As for the festival, is that the same one happychemist mentioned above?
