Thin Lizzy, formed in Dublin, was one the premier rock bands to come out of the late 60s/early 70s. They were initially upset at the release of "Whiskey in the Jar", feeling that it didn't showcase their sound properly. But the single topped charts and lead the their biggest hits, "The Boys are Back in Town" and "Jailbreak".
"Whiskey in the Jar" is a well known Irish ballad but there are several versions of the song/lyrics out there. There's another version under a chair somewhere.

Van Morrison, an Northern Irish musician, gained famed with the band Them and the single "Gloria". He then went solo and released "Brown Eyed Girl". The album Moondance is his biggest success and widely considered to be one of the best albums ever.

Two giants of Irish music together. The Dubliners were formed in 1962 and is the band largely responsible for the popularly of Irish folk music. Best known for their versions of Irish classics which are often regarded as THE definite version.
The Pogues are often cited as the first of the Irish/Celtic folk punk genre and they had vast influence over a number of bands.

(F)lannigan's Ball is a version of the traditional Irish folk song, Lanigan's Ball. DKM rewrote the lyrics adding more Boston flair but keeping with the party attitude. Didn't hurt that Ronnie Drew (from The Dubliners) and Spider Stacy (from The Pogues) added vocals.
Street Dogs was formed in Boston by Mike McColgan, one of the founding members of Dropkick Murphys. This song is about him and the other founding member of DKM, Ken Casey.

Another Boston based band and one that doesn't usually say Irish but this song is Irish flared and it's about one of Boston's darker events, Board Street Riot. Just happens to be one of my favorite MMB
