Chair 6!

Gary Moore "Cold Day in Hell". Music/Lyrics

Gary Moore was an Northern Irish guitarist, best known for blues and being a member of Thin Lizzy. He played one hell of a searing guitar.

Chair 11!

And speaking of Thin Lizzy, their version of the "Whiskey in the Jar". Music/Lyrics

Thin Lizzy, formed in Dublin, was one the premier rock bands to come out of the late 60s/early 70s. They were initially upset at the release of "Whiskey in the Jar", feeling that it didn't showcase their sound properly. But the single topped charts and lead the their biggest hits, "The Boys are Back in Town" and "Jailbreak".

"Whiskey in the Jar" is a well known Irish ballad but there are several versions of the song/lyrics out there. There's another version under a chair somewhere.

Chair 12!

Dropkick Murphys "Bar Room Hero". Music/LyricsOne of my favorite bands (and I even managed to work them into my canon, Ash & Sal), they are probably the most well known bands of the Irish/Celtic punk genre. They are most well known for their song "I'm ( ... )

Chair 5!

The Pogues and The Dubliners "Mountain Dew". Music/Lyrics

Two giants of Irish music together. The Dubliners were formed in 1962 and is the band largely responsible for the popularly of Irish folk music. Best known for their versions of Irish classics which are often regarded as THE definite version.

The Pogues are often cited as the first of the Irish/Celtic folk punk genre and they had vast influence over a number of bands.

Chair 1!

The Dubliners "Whiskey in the Jar" Music & Lyrics

The Dubliners were formed in 1962 and is the band largely responsible for the popularly of Irish folk music. Best known for their versions of Irish classics which are often regarded as THE definite version, such as this version of "Whiskey in the Jar."

Chair 13!

Flogging Molly "Drunken Lullabies". Music/Lyrics

Flogging Molly was formed in LA by Irish singer Dave King and is another major player in the Irish/Celtic folk punk genre.

Chair 20!

Dropkick Murphys "(F)lannigan's Ball". Music/Music/Lyrics

(F)lannigan's Ball is a version of the traditional Irish folk song, Lanigan's Ball. DKM rewrote the lyrics adding more Boston flair but keeping with the party attitude. Didn't hurt that Ronnie Drew (from The Dubliners) and Spider Stacy (from The Pogues) added vocals.

For you:
Chair 4
The Chieftains and Van Morrison "I'll Tell Me Ma". Music/Lyrics

A well known children's song and lots of artists have covered it. My favorite version happens to be from a local Seattle band called Wages of Sin.

Chair 8

Sinéad O'Connor "Nothing Compares 2 U" Music/Lyrics

A cover of a Prince song, this song launched Sinéad into the international music scene.

Chair 19

The Prodigals "The Immigrant" Music/Lyrics

The Prodigals are a low-key and slightly less well known Irish folk punk band formed in New York.

For me:

Chair 9
Street Dogs "Two Angry Kids" Music/Lyrics

Street Dogs was formed in Boston by Mike McColgan, one of the founding members of Dropkick Murphys. This song is about him and the other founding member of DKM, Ken Casey.

Chair 10
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones "Riot on Board Street" Music/Lyrics

Another Boston based band and one that doesn't usually say Irish but this song is Irish flared and it's about one of Boston's darker events, Board Street Riot. Just happens to be one of my favorite MMB ( ... )
