If it wasn't for the sight of nearly every surface of his office completely laden with baskets, bundles and boxes of sweets Toushiro would have had another normal day full of paperwork, training and meetings but at the large card that was poking out from the mass of candy proclaimed, today was his Birthday.

Out of all the boxes in the room, there was one standing in the corner that was by far the biggest: a green box, wrapped with a red ribbon, and only adorned with one simple card. It may have been imagination, but despite continued observation, the box did tend to be...moving a little, too. It was almost as if Tsunade were waiting inside, dressed in nothing but strategically-placed ribbon herself, ready and waiting to be the best present the young captain would ever get.

The card read: for the best Taichou in Soul Society! Hope you get a lot of use out of it!

Curiosity got the better of him when he spied the rather large box, though when it started to move slightly Toushiro's hand flew up to the handle of his Zanpakuto hoping it wasn't something horrid from 12th.

The young white haired Taichou became even more confused after reading the card, his curious fear was replaced by annoyance as he wondered if it had actually been sent by Kurosaki as he removed his hand from Hyourinmaru to break apart the red ribbon.

Her excitement was getting the better of her, but still she continued on with staying as still as she could in the box. With the ribbon gone, it just took one tug to let the front fall away, revealing Tsunade in all her glory. Her friend had been right-- he was very easy on the eyes, and very much worth being a present for.

"Happy birthday!"

Well he hadn't be expecting this. Toushiro stared at the very naked woman before him, not entirely what to say to his Birthday present and also wondering if Rangiku had any female relatives.

"Er... thanks?"

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SHIRO-CHAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Matsumoto Rangiku shouted joyfully as she threw open their office door. Shutting it behind herself she smiled warmly over at him and walked closer, holding a neatly wrapped little box out to him.

"Here you go. I got you something." Her blue eyes were alight with joy as she waited for him to take the gift she had got him. She only hoped she liked it, it was very hard to find and even harder to pay for...especially since she did it all legit and actually used her own money. -_-''' ah the things one did for the people they truly loved.

Inside the tiny box was a crystal necklace, a dragon curled around a sleeping cat. It was a symbol of their love in her opinion and it came with a mate, two of a kind. She herself had the other one and would wear it, replacing the chain around her neck that Gin had given her so long ago with this new symbol of new and hopefully lasting love.

He nearly jumped completely out of his skin from the joyful shout behind him, turning with a fake smile on his face the white haired man looked confused at the small box in Rangiku's hands.

"You didn't have to get me anything Ran-chan." Toushiro remarked with a small blush painting his slightly pale cheeks before he took the gift from her hands and gasped in awe at what was inside. "It's beautiful, thank you."

Rangiku smiled softly at him and nodded. She was happy he liked it and well, the other part of his present would have to wait till after work. She leaned over and gave him a small kiss before heading to her desk to attempt.....working.....

She really did try to be honest...but after about an hour she found herself doodling in the sidebars of the papers and only have glancing at things as she filled them out.

He blushed at the kiss before slipping the necklace on over his head and letting it rest on top of his uniform top for all the see before he went to start sorting through the mountain of sweets that still took up most if not all of his office.

"You know you don't have to be here Ran-chan." Toushiro commented when he noticed that she wasn't truly working. "At least one of us should enjoy my birthday away from all the paperwork."
