Still felt somewhat tired and drained today, so I didn't try and go back to work. But I did go to see the doctor this afternoon, and he pronounced my progress satisfactory, so I will be returning to work as of tomorrow. For the first time this year ( Read more... )

With co-codamol, the paracetamol in it is the more dangerous of the drugs, and the safe level for that (ie. no liver damage) is fairly high anyway. The codeine is good, but you'd be addicted to it before you caused yourself other damage...

Hope it gets better sooner rather than later though - pain bad.

I've been told that the maximum safe dose is 1000mg in 4 hours. And as co-codamol contains 500mg paracetamol per tablet, that means no more than 2 tablets in 4 hours.

I generally take a single prescription co-codamol tablet every 2-3 hours instead, sometimes alternating them with ibuprofen (or nurofen plus - my ibuprofen tablets are 600mg, so that's 3 standard nurofen plus which has the added assistance of the codeine). This was what the doc recommended. Seems there's been some studies recently that showed that taking a lower dose of co-codamol more frequently is of more help for chronic long-term pain.
