You've heard it all (mostly) before, but it doesn't hurt to hear it again:

- An update on the casting for Nightwatching (dir. Peter Greenaway). Dark Horizons today reported that Martin Freeman is going to be playing Rembrandt -- this agrees with yesterday's news from Coming Soon! and The Hollywood Reporter. Looks like the earlier piece of news ( Read more... )

No, that is Norrington. That's also him in the shot of the three people and in the silhouetted fight scene.

Also, he is the leaping guy and right behind Elizabeth's head when she's dressed as a pirate.

Gore Verbinski is a mad genius who's in the Zone right now. I don't think he's capable of screwing up this back-to-back franchise. He works in the Hollywood system with a distinct personal style & visual language that probably rivals Spielberg in his peak. I was on board with him ever since Mouse Hunt, which is sneaky good.

"If all goes well, Ender's Game will be Wolfgang Petersen's (The Perfect Storm) next project."

This gives "if all goes well" a brand new definition. Because Wolfgang is, to me, dreadfully overrated and cannot cash in on his critical success Das Boot any longer, since his balance sheet is chock-a-block of mediocrity. I hope it gets passed over to someone else before they give him the keys.

I have to admit a morbid curiosity re. Ender's Game. I love the book, but I don't think it's CAPABLE of being adapted well to film, yet any attempt will probably be wonderfully entertaining.

Entertaining like a train wreck, I mean.

Maybe Doug Liman will steal it from him. Or even Paul Verhoven. tiffleigh May 3 2006, 09:22:36 UTC
I wish I could be as bullish on Der Wolfgang. His ouevre:

Poseidon (remake w/ nary a reason to exist)
Troy
The Perfect Storm (another rogue wave)
Air Force One ("Get Off Of My Plane!!!")
Outbreak
In the Line of Fire (Clint protecting the President from psycho John Malkovich; isn't aging well)
Shattered (big Hitchcock hacky mess)
Enemy Mine (the only thing on the docket that may have something going for it; it *is* sci-fi. But it's also boring sci-fi where Dennis Quaid delivers an alien child borne by Oscar winner Louis Gossett Jr.)

My squee just now was so high pitched my dog started barking. What the hell, Norrington? What happened? *continues to squee*

I like Martin Freeman too but Matthew! Come on.

Why the hell would they make a sequel to Dracula? The first one was hilarious because it was so awful. I can already see this is going to be worse.

YAY NORRINGTON!

Really, I'm just so full of love I'm beyond words

I think that it's meant to be...like an official sequel authorised by the estate of Bram Stoker (and I just totally made that up) or something... Or a film based on an official sequel? In either case, it's completely unnecessary, just like every Dune sequel.

I HAD to made them, I was staring at them and thinking how they were beautiful in all these different ways: cinematography, the performances, the special effects, that it's revealing to us about the plot...

This sequel is going to be better than the original. I feel it in my bones.
