The Complete Guide to Parenting

Did everyone who wanted to see this, see it?   I just  ul'd a file  for a uknova person  who needed it, and thought I'd survey and see if there was anyone else in need.

Here is the first episode.   i can put  the others up if there's interest.  As you've likely read, it's not a great program, but does improve (a bit) as the series goes on.

Now, if ( Read more... )

Glad you're enjoying RM! I'd heard one episode from the first season while driving in the UK a few years ago, but never heard the complete set until this year. I'm very glad to have found it!

i agree with your about the switch. TAO was wonderful, and the character just seemed a bit forced, rush, and "hard" in the second season. Third is a bit better.

and the link for the first episode is in my first post. I'll add the rest this evening (us time). I may also decide to friendslock the posting, as I'm starting to think that might be a good idea.

They didn't just change actresses, they completely rewrote the character in series 2 & 3! It was for the better, I think, since Ruth was fairly one-note in the first series, but the change is surprising. Very bittersweet finale in series 3, I think. ;)

And, please, bring on 'The Complete Guide'! I haven't been able to find it anywhere (not surprising, being in the states) and I don't care how crap it is, if Pete's in it, I want to see it! (I'm sure I left my good taste somewhere 'round here, hmm...)

your good taste is probably having a drink with the three left gloves I can't find. And the one size 11 knitting needle that evaporated sometime this week.

The character was developed more fully, but i just didn't like the way she sounded. I felt it too nasal and a bit strident at the start. But she may have just been a bit nervous or uncomfortable, as her voiced dropped and mellowed a bit as the weeks went on.

However, I'm really sensitive to that, since it's my biz....and I'm much too hypercritical. So I should probably shut up now....

But before I do: I do wonder if the actress was using her own voice, or was pushing into a characterization that just wasn't in her normal vocal range. To try and sound a bit more "TAO-ish."

And the files? Which is what you really want, not my rant, will go up this evening.

If all you need is episode 1, I can probably get that up tomorrow. I wonder if a boxed set will magically appear once the second series runs. Whenever that is. It was allegedly this fall quarter, but no signs as of yet.

enjoy. We're on the lookout for series 2, 3, 4 of clocking off, so if you can find any of those episodes, you'll be queen of the may. I just KNOW that someone has them on an old tape somewhere. As I said on UK_Telly, it's a great reason to call mum, or Gran. And to check in with an ex.

Just finished watching this first epi of 'Complete Guide.' Seemed to me PD was channeling Dr. Webster! A highly improbable plot, granted, and somewhat unevenly executed, but I'm willing to excuse those as common problems for a pilot episode. The whole thing seemed like it would have worked much better as an episode of The Simpsons, for some reason. Loved the bit with the headmistress (or principal?) talking to the substitute on the phone as she overhears Petey's racism lesson!

So yeah, not the most brilliant thing ever, but up til now PD hasn't really done much comedy, so I don't think it's all that terrible, considering.

Nobody does obliviousness quite like Pete, on screen or radio, IMO.
