This morning, Lipton got up, went for his morning run and workout before the sun got too high, grabbed a quick breakfast, took a mug of black coffee out to the beach, and turned 25.

He'd never really been the sort of guy to make a big deal about the fact that he was turning a year older or throw a big party for himself. His birthdays came and went ( Read more... )

Jane did know of the date, for while she did not actively seek out Carwood in recent days, she thought today to be an exception. She had been at the Compound first thing to bake and was now finished a proper cake. It sat in the fridge awaiting cutting and Jane need only find Carwood to offer her wishes for the day. She was unsure how she could see him, especially now, especially knowing what she did from the Council, but that did not matter. She must wish him well.

It was by the beach she found him and she tugged anxiously upon her knee-length pink dress, adjusting the skirt carefully, unaccustomed to such short wear, but the heat did not wear well with her longer dresses. "Carwood?" she gently called out, keeping her distance and wishing to gain his attention.

Lipton looked up, his heart jumping to somewhere in the vicinity of his throat when he saw her. Every time. Every time he caught sight of her, be in in the crowded room of the New Years Eve party or on the beach as the gulls screeched somewhere above them, he was struck with the effect she had on him.

His mouth tilted up into a smile, and he raised his hand in greeting. "Good morning, Miss Bennet."

Jane approached, hands tucked against her lap as she walked in order to hide the fact that she was constantly wringing her fingers, not wishing to think on her talk with Mr. Fick, but finding it unavoidable. "I do know that this is a breach of our current agreement, but I did think that perhaps we could make an exception for your birthday," she offered softly.

Of course the person to remember his birthday, something even he tended to forget as it was approaching, was this woman. He smiled at her, and it was warm and sincere. "Yes, we can, of course." He looked at her, and he noticed the unusal length of her dress but kept from mentioning it - he tended to get into dangerous territory when he started complimenting her. "It's a nice day for it, isn't it?" He asked, gesturing out to the expanse of sea and sun, not quite yet the heat of the day.

Davos had never been truly happy on the Island, he couldn't let himself be with his wife and sons left behind, but he was occasionally close to it. One of the main reasons for that was gone now.

He'd lost some of his ease and, as a result, started wearing a sword again. Though he allowed people to think it was the armored man's rampage that had spooked him instead, as he knew well how silly the idea of a sword stopping disappearances was.

Still, he was troubled, and when troubled he always did the same thing. He went to the beach and watched the one constant of his life, the sea. It always calmed him.

This day, though, he was not the only one who had that idea.

"Good day," he greeted the other man politely.

"Good morning." He nodded, eyes flicking up to the man standing above him and offered what he hoped resemebled a friendly smile. "I suppose it is a good day," He said after a moment, looking out over the waves. "I've made it to another birthday, and not everybody gets to do that."

"That's true enough," Davos replied evenly. "Best wishes on your nameday then, ser."

"Ah, thanks," Lipton said, almost startled by the kind words. He was much too far inside his own head today. He transfered his coffee cup to his left hand, and offered out his right for a shake. "Carwood Lipton. You can take a seat if you'd like."

"You look like you're having the time of your life out here," Lew remarks as he makes his way over, bare feet sinking into the warm sand. At one point he'd been the guy who knew everything, but he's grown lazy and complacent and has absolutely no idea that there's anything special about today aside from the fact that he's alive in it.

He's polite enough to not light up, but does plop down beside Lipton without invitation. Shit, he figures, if the guy wanted privacy, he's got a room with a door on it.

"It's an absolute thrill ride, how could you tell?" Lipton replied dryly, not really minding that he had company. He'd been a loner before the war, but that was years ago now - as his birthday could attest to. "Made it to twenty-five today, so I suppose that's the current highlight."

"Yeah?" Lew asks, impressed, and then gives Lipton a hearty pat on the back. "Happy birthday. I've got to know, though: why the hell are you out here sulking over coffee when you should be having a party? Even you've got to admit that a birthday calls for a party."

"Ah, I'm not really a party-throwing kind of guy," Lipton admitted, giving Nixon a half smile because really, that shouldn't be a huge suprise to anyone. "And I've had a lot on my mind lately, almost entirely forgot about it myself."

In an attempt to get exercise and actual sunlight, Anatoly had opted for a walk along the beach after his morning tea rather than go straight to the chess board. It was a nice morning for it, after all, and by the time he came across the man sitting on the beach, he was feeling he'd made the right decision.

"Good morning," he greeted him cheerfully.

"Hey there," Lipton greeted, giving the approaching man what he hoped was a friendly smile. He used to be better at this, at shoving whatever he was actually feeling aside and putting on whatever expression he needed to have, but after ten months on the island that skill was deserting him. "Russian?" He guessed conversationally from the man's accent.

"I am," Anatoly admitted a bit sheepishly, sticking his hands in his pockets. "I hope that won't count against me?" Most people didn't seem to have a problem, but he remembered that man Colbert's reactions all too well.

"Nah, I've got nothing personal against Russia and the Soviet Union were Allies. You're fine." Lipton assured him, smiling a little more easily this time. "Carwood Lipton, by the way." He said, transfering his coffee cup to his left hand and holding out his right for a shake.
