Trance had brought her tree with her into the rec room. Normally, she kept it away from people. It was far too precious to be out where everyone could see and touch. But she’d had an instinct and she always followed her instincts. Maybe he was feeling sociable. She stopped at the bookshelf and sighed. It was being picky today, offering her ( Read more... )

"I know that tree," Reese said. She'd been passing, avoiding the jukebox, which cranked itself awake. "Oh fuck you, please." Reese flipped the Jukebox off and was grateful it hadn't been particularly mean. That was just poking fun at her, too. "Hello Trance Gemini. Much as being purple was fun, I'm glad I'm back in my own body now."

She was, too. With the aching shoulder and the early, early mornings, and all the other hosts of issues that came attached to her own body. It had been enlightening, to say the least, and sobering.

Well, there was only one person that Trance wouldn't recognize that would know that tree. "Hi, Dani." Her mouth quirked up a little. "I see it's behaving about as well for you as it has been for me. It was doing nursery rhymes earlier. Twinkle, twinkle little star, indeed." She put down her book and nodded at the chair.

"Want to sit?"

"Sure," she said, rolling her eyes at the jukebox, which fell silent. She liked the couch best, which was comfortable and seemed to invite her more often than not. She tucked herself into a corner (it felt very safe and secure, which she rather wanted) and eyed the tree a bit more.

"Bonsai trees take such careful pruning," Reese said thoughtfully. "My mother liked them almost as much as orchids, but my father constantly killed them. The longest time we had one was about three years."

"It's...not exactly a bonsai tree. And it needs more taking care of than you know. I trim it now, but it's mostly just random and I'm not sure whether or not it's doing any good. Or whether it's just useless cutting." Of course it stayed alive.

This was the one tree that Trance didn't call a 'he' or 'she'. And she didn't name it, either.

"The who are pragmatists? Some alien species you met?" Xander asked as he leaned over the back of the couch on his elbows, still bright green hair flopping into his eyes, attempting to read over her shoulder but the words did what they always did and blurred together.

Xander had been out and about, since he couldn't find Jill, who'd been very quiet and sullen lately, or Clark, who he just couldn't find. He hoped Lex wasn't up to anything...but he doubted anyone on the island would let him get away with anything. So Xander was left to find something to do, with finishing with his building crew for the day and having no homework. When he'd walked by the rec room, he'd been quite glad to see the flash of purple. It had been a while since he'd talked to Trance and he hoped to rectify that.

Trance looked up, mouth open to answer. No words reached her lips, though. Instead, she laughed. "Are you trying to look more like Elphie or something? It's not her hair that's green." She reached a hand up and ruffled his hair, grinning at him. "Yep. The Nietzscheans. Genetically advanced humans who basically put themselves before anyone." Really, Trance hadn't seen Xander much since she and Spike had stopped speaking.

"How're you, mister?"

"Sure sounds like some vampires I know." Xander said in reply as he rolled his eyes.

Then he chuckled and leaned forward to give her a quick hug from behind. "I've been better. But I'm good." He begin cryptically, but it was the truth. He was still getting over Buffy's disappearance but it was better now, even if he impulsively checked on Spike to the point of getting on the vampire's nerves. Then he ran a hand through his hair as he chuckled again. "You like it? Spike did it as part of his auction date. You shoulda seen the clothes he had me. You could see your reflection in my pants. How have you been?"

Trance tensed a little when he mentioned vampires, but hugged him back. "You should give me a fashion show one of these days, you know. Too bad I missed it." She patted the spot next to her, moving her book to the table.

"I've been better, but I'm good," she replied, quirking her lips into a small smile. "The room's decided to be nasty to me today and remind me what I left behind."

Bernice had no idea what she was going to do with her days now that it appeared she had nothing but time on her hands. She'd been told there was reading material available, and she could think of a lot worse ways to spend a day than doing research or losing herself in someone else's adventures, so she headed to the rec room. When she entered, she was greeted by an extremely welcome sight. A non-human! So, the Doctor hadn't been entirely truthful. That wasn't exactly a surprise. She cleared her throat so as not to startled the woman.

"Hello! I can't tell you how lovely it is to see you. I arrived not long ago, and I was begining to fear that everyone on this island was human. Thank the goddess, that's not the case. I'm Bernice Summerfield, by the way. And that's a lovely plant. Is it yours?"

"Well, we are, actually," Trance said, looking up. "Even if we weren't before the island. Even the ones who have two hearts or look less human than I do. But I think that's something the island does to us when we show up." She leaned forward, holding out a hand. "Trance Gemini. And yes, actually. It's mine. It needed some time out of my place."

Shaking the woman's hand, Benny tried to stay cheerful even if the reply had thrown her a bit. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Trance Gemini. Though, of course, I do wish it were under different circumstances." Benny took a seat next to her and continued in a lower voice, "And I'm very sorry about what's happened to you."

Trance shrugged. "I've been here more than a year, now. I've come to terms with being human. The physical aspects of it, at least, like getting a cold." The rest, well, she wasn't sure she'd get used to that in any number of lifetimes.
