There was something going on that had a bee up everyone’s skirts, and if Mrs Lovett hadn’t been so attentive to her cooking that morning, she’d have made an effort to get an ear full of it. Sad to say cooking for a group was no time for gossip (not that she was a gossiper at all, but a woman couldn’t help but be curious when there were people ( Read more... )

Adora Belle, in the interests of procuring some coffee, walked into the kitchen. Then she stopped.

"Oh," she said, then she turned on her heel and walked back out again. Approximately three minutes later, she returned, a cigarette between her scowling lips. It didn't appear to be helping.

"Hello," she said to the woman. If that was what she was going to look like in fifteen years if she stopped brushing her hair, she...wasn't sure what she was going to do. Go mad, perhaps. It would go a long way to helping in this sort of situation.

Double vision isn't something a man's quite ready for, but it's not a bad sight when I wander in and see her. And then another her. "Am I interrupting a sisterly moment?" I can't help asking aloud with a sly little grin. Of course it's probably clones. Hell, I got one staggering around twice my age. Three times, by the way he acts.

"Cain," said Adora Belle with a sigh. Someone she recognized, at least. She turned away from her so-called 'twin'. "Do you know who this woman," she jerked a thumb over her shoulder, "is? Only she's got my face. And I think that's rather rude of her."

I sigh at that and manage something of a polite smile. "I'm not Cain," I offer because I figure that'll at least sort that out. And now I know my clone's got (better than decent) taste in women. She's incredibly attractive, I'll say that. "And no, don't have a clue."

He had awoken to find himself in a strange room in the Compound, with a strange person in the other bed, and he himself in a strange body. A very young, very blond body, and despite knowing that this sort of thing happened Charlie Crews was deeply confused by it all. Well, confused mixed with horrified and a healthy dose of righteous outrage and intense personal affront, and those last two in particular made it even more perplexing. The universe makes fun of us all, because it is a cruel bastard with no sense of propriety bent on causing misery and humiliation-

Where the hell had THAT come from? Shaken, he'd gotten dressed, dimissing the robes of velvet and silk he'd been drawn to initially and settled on black jeans and an emerald green t-shirt, and headed out. Charlie needed to think, he needed Reese, he needed to find himself (in the literal sense for once), he needed no one and nothing because he was perfectly capble of taking care of himself ( ... )

While it wasn't the best potential distraction, Lovett did perk up (or at least she mentally perked, the only physical response was a slight raise of her brows) when the young man waltzed his way into the kitchen. He was a horridly pale little slip of a thing, almost as though he'd spent his early years locked in a cellar. But by the looks of him, with those clean narrow features and straight back, she'd be willing to bet money that it had been a rich cellar.

"You need a pie." She said crisply, eyes flickering down over that lean frame. Straightening up she rolled her shoulders as it was feeling like they were starting to lock up. Dreary old bones, it may have been easier cooking for a few once a week but it could still cause an ache or two. "A full gut will get that sour look off your face."

Or at least get him talking. She was nearly buzzing with the need to know what was going on that had everyone so riled up.

He wanted to say "thank you," he sent the message to his mouth a few times but all he managed was a curt nod. "Pie would be good," he said, and then blinked hard because that accent was not getting any easier to deal with. Charlie tried to smile but it came across as a conflicted smirk.

"Sorry, I'm... not myself today, miss."

The problem with being distracted is that Olive Snook did not in fact see where she was going. A mug of coffee in one hand, a bowl of fruit salad (which was not a pie, yes, but she was not in the mood for a pie at that very moment) in her hand, she turned. Unfortunately her turning brought her against a surly looking young man, only her superior waitressing skills preventing her from spilling the coffee all over them both.

The fruit salad, however, did not meet such an auspicious fate, tumbling to the floor between them.

It had, perhaps, been naive of her to continue living under the impression that she’d managed to somehow fly under the Island’s radar, coming out the other end of these abnormal occurrences without so much as a hair out of place. Her ‘good’ fortune had to end at some point, she supposed. While odd, waking up in a room with several strange men might not have been so bad if she’d only gotten to do so in her own body, and if she hadn’t been woken up by a small, chirping bird ( ... )

Restlessness in the night bred exhaustion and hunger, and Sweeney Todd, although he endeavoured not to make a habit of becoming caught up in the crowd, occasionally found himself visiting the kitchen at its peak hours.

This, of course, garnered the expectation that he would have to interact with denizens of the Island.

What he did not expect to find was Mrs Lovett manning the oven, and he gave significant pause in the doorway before mustering the resolve to show himself.
