The bookshelf sucked sometimes and that evening was no exception. Eventually Rictor just had to make do with the only book on it that wasn't a self-help book or a comic about his life. It ended up being a book on origami, but he was still in a decent enough frame of mind that he accepted the bookshelf's challenge and decided to learn a new and ( Read more... )

"Your unicorn's impressive." Nita smiled as she moved past the guy in the recroom to head to the bookshelf, shoving a long lock of brown hair out of her face. "I never figured out how to make anything but cranes - and not even the awesome ones where you pull the head and tail and the wings flap. Just the ordinary ones." She looked back when she heard the jingle of metal on metal, and it turned out that Ponch had followed her.

He was a big dog, a black lab / border collie mix. He sat in front of Rictor without even a look at Nita, his tail thumping on the floor as he clearly was waiting to be petted.

"Thanks." He didn't add that she should have seen the first three he attempted. "The real problem's not the paper so much as the instructions," Julio assured her. "They're pretty lousy most of the time."

Then Rictor grinned at the dog and started scratching behind his ears. Despite never having a dog of his own, Rictor was definitely a dog person and he liked that this one seemed pretty friendly right off the bat. "Is he yours?"

Nita shrugged. "I don't know - I have issues folding some objects." Which sounded weird, but when she said she had a lot of experience folding space, it... was still weird.

Ponch's tail thumped on the ground, and he moved closer, his paws on Rictor's knees. C'mon! Don't stop petting me! This one's a good one!

Nita recognized the wiggle Ponch did as he hopped closer, and rolled her eyes. "No, he's-" And then she stopped. Kit... Kit'd been gone since September. "Yeah, I guess he's mine." She paused, then sucked in a breath and forced a smile, licking her lips. "His name's Ponch. Oh, and I'm Nita."

"Like clothes?" Rictor teased. "I get that." And he'd probably have to do some folding as soon as his laundry finished drying in about half an hour.

The dog was very friendly and Rictor laughed before petting him some more.

"Well, it's nice to meet both of you," he told Nita, giving her a friendly smile. "I'm Julio Richter, but most people just call me Rictor."
