Kinky Idol Mirrors

May 31, 2006 09:42

Mirror, MirrorReturning to Montreal, I looked into a mirror: I have churches for eyes, a cobbled tongue, St. Laurent hair. It was the first time I ever realized in a thousand-flashing-lightbulb way the extent that the city's inscribed on my bones...Or, truer yet, that my skeleton's made of Montreal ( Read more... )

You're a Montrealer! I never knew! But I love what you say about the city. I moved there from Anglo Canada when I was 17, and suffered five years of abuse at the hands of the French. Worst five years of my life, and I still dream about that city. I still love it. It's amazing. Montreal, bitch goddess. I haven't been back since 1997, I don't think ( ... )

Hee! We're clearly sisters under the skin with our Montreal-Van connections! I never felt any abuse from the French (apart from the frickin' laws), although I did find a general French/English divide: in the twenty-plus years that I lived there, I never had a single French-language friend. As for Van, word, sistah! The beaches and mountains (glorious things--I never got their appeal until I moved out here) make it one of the world's best-set cities, and despite the rain (which is usually more spittish than anything), I'm happy to live here. Yay!

Gorgeous post. Language so beautiful I just want to eat it with a spoon. And whipped cream. (kink alert!)

It also makes me want very much to go to Montréal, a city I haven't visited in at least ten years. But one that was always dear to my heart- Toronto is likemy longtime love and spouse forever... but glamourous, seductive, difficult, delicious Montréal, that's the sexy lover, so exciting to visit. But one I suspected would be way too much work to live with. In.

And the cherry-on-top flip of the hat to debauchery and kink... oh yeah, baby. Makes me think of all the innocent little short-sleeved Mormon missionaries, and naughty schoolgirls wearing their kilts up to there, wondering what debauchery would taste like. Those buttoned-down boyfriends in business suits who secretly long to be tied up, ridden hard, and put away steaming wet.

This? Is totally why I friended you.

Babe, you should go back to Montreal and revel in its...Montrealness. It's gorgeous now, lilac trees springing up between stone buildings, the weather warm enough that skirts are riding higher and men are starting to sweat. Mmmm.

Toronto's fabulous in its own way, but as a Montrealer--well, you know where my bias is. Heh.

On the debauchery front: you speak words of great truth, chica, and give me some images worth taking to bed. Woof! (And thanks for the kind words! *mwah*)

A mix of French and English...that just sounds hot. The softness of the French with the je ne sais quoi of the English.

My friends and I, we get a mix of Finnish, English and Swedish (and the occasional German, French and Spanish words when we're feeling particularly festive), a bastardization of popular culture, our mother tongues and our studies in the languages, and it mostly just sounds horrible, a miss-match of gobbledygook nobody else can really follow.

I so need to visit Montreal sometime this/next year, don't I?

Babe, I can't imagine that linguistic stew is anything less than delicious! Why stick with one language when you can use multiple others to fill in the gaps?

(And can I say that I really love your long sentence? It flows so beautifully and fits together so well, even if I think the last line is surely untrue!)

You're alive! *glomps*

I didn't know you were a Quebecoise. Interessant.

Hee! Yes, very much alive at the moment, babe! And, yeppers, I'm a Quebecoise, although of the Anglo variety, a relatively rare breed.

It's always a pleasure to chat with you, Lobelia! You make LJ extra sparkly.

And what's your new fandom? I've been in Montreal for the last couple of weeks (and the 'rents only have dial-up) so I'm hors du loop.

Thanks, hon--you're sweet! I can certainly understand the lure of unknown words: when I go to my BFF's house she always threatens to hide her (complete with magnifying glass) OED from me because I'm always feasting on it. Heh.

And of course you can add me! It's a pleasure just to be asked.
