I don't know how you feel about growing green things, but catnip is practically a weed, it doesn't need much help once you seed it. Although I learned the hard way that to grow it in cat territory, you need a hanging basket. Otherwise, as soon as they smell it, it will be grazed to the nub.

I have of course considered this (also catnip tea is very soothing, like valerian) but I don't really have room or the correct area for a hanging basket - and knowing my cat, she'll actually try to make the jump and spill potting soil all over my joint.

I thought about planting some outside, but our backyard is already Cat Hangout Central, and I don't want there to be any unpleasant altercations back there. You know how they get when they're all nipped up.

Yeah, the big drawback to hanging baskets for me, is how much harder they are to water. Some day, I'll use drip irrigation tubing for the ultimate catnip grow rig. Either that, or set up a special grow room in my basement and sell the stuff to my friends....
