Christmas

It seems every year, after Christmas, I always feel a letdown. All that preparation and it's over in the blink of an eye. This year there was even more of a letdown because Christmas prep, decorating, baking, and waiting for packages really broke up the monotony of staying socially distant ( Read more... )

I recognise the feeling. All the prep and decorating helps give a sense of purpose an something to work towards.

Mainly, to be honest, I am now sitting drooling over the thought of Eggs Benedict now!

Usually, Eggs Benedict is something I eat while on vacation (once not every day). So making it at home was a special treat. (To be honest, if I had a choice I would choose Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon instead of ham.) But it was still yummy.

An odd year where nothing is anywhere normal. The first time I met my husband's family it wasn't a holiday, but just a Sunday when all his sisters and their families were at their parents' house. We got there just after lunch. I had just got off work. His mom pushed me to fix a plate and eat. So they watched me and questioned me as I ate. I never was comfortable around them for the twenty years we were together. So maybe easing into the family might be better.

Normally leftovers are not a bad thing. With less people to share them it is more challenging.

I do love leftovers but if there is too much it can get tiring.

I agree it is better to ease into a family situation. Especially since DIL has been extra curious about youngest sons GF.

Oh yum - eggs benedict - although I love the version with smoked salmon (eggs royale?). I’m not keen on roast ham either - I much prefer it cold. It’s a bit weird really isn’t it?

I never knew that eggs benedict made with smoked salmon was called eggs royale.

I much prefer it cold. It’s a bit weird really isn’t it? Yes, I always thought it was weird that I loved a deli ham sandwich but didn't much care for roast ham. *shrugs*
