Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any questions or concerns, this is the place to ask. It will be added to as more questions come in.

What are the marks for?
Nobody knows. But over the course of the RP, the meaning will gradually become clear. Plots ftw.

Why doesn't my character get a mark?!
Honestly? Because it's more fun this way. 8D

In serious terms? Because the marked characters are rolled by AIM dice, as it would ruin all the fun if EVERY SINGLE ONE was marked.

Do we get to pick where our characters' markings are?
Certainly- they can be anywhere you'd like. Anywhere. Provided, of course, that it is still on the character's body somewhere.

My character has special powers. Do they keep them in Template?
To answer the question- yes. To elaborate- They can't use said powers to blow up the city, etc...

Can I blow up the city?
See above. Maybe bits and pieces of it, but this would likely result in punishment from the city- use your best discretion.

Can I hurt/other wise maim other characters?
HACK AWAY. But do warn the mods beforehand. There are consequences.

Can my character leave the city?
Where's the fun in that?! I mean uh... No.

Are the rooms assigned?
Rooms are rolled randomly via AIM dice, though they can be changed if any issues arise. See the Character Housing post.

What are the restrictions on Template version characters?
Essentially, not many. The only required thing is:

They can't NOT know what Template is. They're version of events takes place in a parallel version of the Template the RP occurs in (Though since Template has no clear history, their version could be almost identical in history and appearance to their canon world anyways).

If you aren't sure on how a Template's history would work, there's this app for a reference.

Other than that, it's pretty much an open ended thing. You can make your character's Template any way you like (As well as the character themselves, provided it's within reason). Just imagine the brainbreak between the different Template!Characters when they find out they're from worlds with the same name, but completely different layouts/historys, etc...

I don't get enlightenment. Explain please?
Basically, enlightenment occurs when the other version of an already played character is apped a character finally realizes their double is there.

In the case of Original version characters, the doubles have existed there the whole time (Just in their parallel version of Template), and they can be seen once the OU is 'enlightened'.

In the case of Template characters, it basically works the same way. They can see their OUs when said OU dies and arrives in Template.

Bwuh? What happens if a character is dropped?
Then the poor character has a relapse and becomes unenlightened again. D:

And if someone picks them up again?
Then they get one of two choices:

1) They can bring them back as a clean slate (Meaning, no memories of ever being there before; Starting over).

2) They can resume playing the character from when they were there before. The character will have no idea where they'd been, and hopefully, will re-adjust.

Is there any way to contact an NPC?
Yes! Characters are allowed to make posts to the template_rpg comm calling out an NPC (Currently: Hannah Carver). The mod in charge of the NPC being asked for will then respond to the post with them.

Do Template verse characters have to be from the same version of Template as their TU!Canonmates?
Not at all! Syncing up the universes is entirely optional, and completely up to the muns.

What is a cove, and how are the townhouses laid out?
Basically, it's a house with two floors and a basement. The top floor holds the Upper Cove and the main floor holds the Lower. Below them is the Laundry Cove.

Both the Upper and Lower Coves contain three bedrooms, a bathroom, and a kitchen, while the Landry Cove contains two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a laundry room.

A cove is essentially the floor that the rooms are on.

How do characters know where their room is?
Upon arriving, characters will have a the key to their house in hand, with a tag attached giving the address and which room they are assigned to.

So I heard there were Activity Checks. Should I be worried?
Not at all! The Activity Check system is simple and easy. Once a month, the mods will make an Activity Check post, and all YOU are required to do is reply, listing the characters you intend to keep. And that's it! You're active!

There is a "two strikes you're out" rule. If you miss an activity check and aren't on hiatus, then one strike will be put to your name. If you miss two in a row, you will be marked as inactive and removed from the game.

So I Herd U Liek Second Level?

How exactly is it portrayed? Is it like a mindscape? Telepathy? A completely different realm? Does it appear different or does it just look like someone's in the same place as you while it's being used?
It's their consciousness, pretty much. The second level is a part of the characters, which is how they can access it in the first place. It's partially how we end up with accidental second level posts- a character's consciousness lapses and they end up acting on the second level instead of the first.

When fully immersed, the character exists completely on the second level, and not at all on the first (a reason why it's so dangerous).

Is it simply just another reflection of reality- as in, if you're downtown and access, are you still downtown but just the second level reflection of downtown, or is it completely different?
It's another reflection of reality! Things on the second level are basically a reflection of the first.

When you're on the second level, can you see anyone else, or only other people who are accessing? Or can you see "potential" accessors, like shadows or something?
While on the second level, you can see the other 'posts' people make on the second level. It's basically a network of communication that way.

How does the second (Digital) level affect a character's powers?
While on the second level, your characters powers will be weakened depending on how immersed they are. The further in, the weaker their powers will be- unless they're fully immersed. This isn't likely to happen right away, as it takes a while to even get used to the second level.

When fully immersed, characters basically exist on the second level. They'll have all of their abilities- but probably won't want to stay for too long. Full immersion heightens the sensations, resulting in an overload of senses- old and new. It's enough to sicken a person, even making it difficult to move. You also wouldn't want to get hit by anyone while they're fully immersed, seeing as how their powers wouldn't be weakened like your own.

Also, it's worth noting that the second level can act as a means of transportation, but not the most convenient one. Characters can travel short distances, yes, but only while fully immersed.

Abuse of the second level, however, may be dangerous. You just never know what sort of surprises it may have...

If you damage things on the second level, buildings and the like, do they become damaged in the real world too? Likewise, if you die, are you dead? If you're not fully immersed are you just kicked out or is it game over?
Well! Powers would be weakened enough, unless you were fully immersed. But as fully immersed, it's doubtful you'd be able to last long enough to do any serious damage. The buildings WOULD be damaged on the first level, yes, since they're connected- but it's just a matter of how much damage you'd be able to do.

Death is an issue in itself- it'd be hard to die on the second level (again, because of weakened abilities), so I'd say just take it to the first for fights. However, if a character dies on the second, they would also die on the first.

And as for the transportation thing, is it like a time dilation, or do you actually have to walk to a place?
You have to walk in place, and no, it doesn't exactly seem convenient. Might make the characters think real hard about why they'd bother with it, huh? |D

So is there a rule of thumb for how long you can last fully immersed before you have to drop?
For that, it really depends on the character. How long WOULD they be able to last under such mental stress?

Also, when you're accessing, is how much you access controllable or is it just kind of a subconscious thing based on what you plan to do (for example, if you know you want to interact with someone do you have to think "I'm only going to immerse 10% so I can talk to someone" as opposed to just accessing and being at the right amount.)
It's not as though they would be thinking in percentages, but that's basically how it would work. "I'll dive in this much to do that, and then leave". Sometimes, though, they're sure to go in deeper than they'd planned. So. Again, up to mun discretion.

And what happens if you push yourself past the limit while fully immersed. Do you get spit out, or punished, or some sort of physical illness?
As for that, the answer is yes. Like... a virus. This may also affect characters randomly, should a mun volunteer them- more details on this to come as it works itself out, promise.

Other Information

What's this about different levels?
Read the ruuuuuuules. ;_;

Template is a city with three levels. The physical one is just like any other city (buildings, cars, and all that).

Digital is the main method of communication. Kind of like a computer, but in your mind.

Spiritual: All the confusion comes from here. Meaning- it's a secret. There isn't much you NEED to know about the Spiritual level at this point in time.

Does not compute. How do we post?
General posts (Aka: your character's 'diary' or something of that nature) get posted to the character journal you had to create upon joining this RP. It isn't in written or typed format, but rather, as though the character is standing on the second level and talking or [Doing something you can describe].

Announcements, other stuff, etc... gets posted: template_rpg

Logs and threads get posted here: template_logs

OOC posts (Your introductions, memes, etc...) go here: Template_ooc

Make sure to friend the mod journal (templatemods) and join all three communities!

Have fun!
