I was going to do a whole list of Things I Hate a couple of days ago, and then I watched Transformers and I starting being all chirpy instead. It was quite distressing.
I was so sorry to see Doakes gone, even knowing it had to happen if the show was to go on. I felt very conflicted with my loyalties to the the characters, because I wanted Dexter not to be found out, but as the season wound down I realized what that would have to mean for Doakes :(
In some ways, the solution felt like a cop-out from facing up to that final conflict. I was glad it went that way, and it worked, but it was quite unbearable at times: Doakes was always the good guy, even when I was delighting in Dexter's narrow escapes.
You're right, it was totally worth the wait to watch those episodes. I'm rather happy with the way everything turned out - I was flailing when Dexter unpacked his new box.
Although... the Doakes "solution" left me feeling kind of hollow. He didn't deserve that. Hell, as you said, he didn't deserve to be framed, either, but that way there was always a fighting chance. New evidence. Dexter contradicting himself (because, let's face it, he's not good at dealing with interrogation under pressure). But this, this was so utterly pointless, especially after he fought so hard. Yes, it was the set-up for the ultimate demise of Lila's (and may I just add that I said that woman was going to be trouble the first time she appeared on screen?), but I still felt cheated. But I guess life is that way: you fight, and then you lose.
On a geekier note, when they oh-so-subtly panned over the Eiffel-Tower to show we were in Paris now? I went, "Ohh, Tokyo!" just out of spite. ;)
