Received the following email from the grad school today:
Your petition requesting an extension of time to complete your PhD has been approved. Please defend and submit your dissertation by Noon on August 1, 2008 (the deadline for an August 2008 conferral).

I need to finish a draft of the entire diss. over winter break. It's doable, but it's going to take a *lot* of work...
Then the plan is I'll be working on the draft over the spring semester, and defending it in May sometime. Then I'll file it over the summer....and then I'm done! ;)
