I've been slacking on LJ (specifically tbone and tb0ne) lately. Here's the rundown for today:
  • In one hour, I will be attending Ethan's kindergarten graduation. GO ETHAN! Yes, we have the camera all charged up.
  • Later tonight, Ethan has a tee-ball game and I have a softball game. Hopefully I'll get to attend both for at least a little bit.

Do Americans get paid maternity/paternity leave? In Ontario a parent can take up to a year off and still get I think 50% of their wages.

It depends on the company. Federal law requires a certain amount of leave if the employee requests it, but companies don't have to make it paid leave. Taking unpaid leave really isn't an option for me or for Gretchen. I'm pretty sure the school district that Gretchen works for doesn't have a paid leave option, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to check!

Check into their FMLA leave policy.

The government pays it here as part of our Employment Insurance program. Some employers will top it up for a while as well, but only if you have a good job.
