Glorious sunshine, a sandy beach, a Pina something or other with a little paper umbrella and a bikini are all you need to get over a traumatic couple of weeks. At least that's what Vala's trying to prove to herself. She's been pretending she's fine for a couple of days now, denying that any of that Adria stuff affected her. Besides a few bruises

...Also, she has the social skills of a lacking social skills thing. Sorry about that.

"It's a delicious but somewhat weak Earth cocktail, containing rum, pineapple and coconut. I thought I'd indulge in the local customs." She raises her glass to Faith with a sarcastic smile.

...Well, she bares her teeth back.
"Don't see the point in that crap. Drink if you're gonna do it." Oh look, she's laying down her towel near-ish to Vala and getting comfortable.
Slipping on a pair of sunglasses, she lays on her back, arms under her head. "Faith."

Vala is many things, unable to take her liquor is not one of them. Exactly what Faith is referring to, somehow slips her by though. She looks down at the drink confused.
"Isn't that what I'm doing? Drinking it?" And then it hits her what she meant, "Oh!" she exclaims, penny dropping. "You mean you only consume alcohol with the intention of drinking yourself into an inebriated state and believe the more you drink, the more 'bad ass' you appear."

Instead of asking what Vala's doing or anything, he just flops down next to her in the sand, looking out at the water.
"'Allo," he remarks. It's a bit of a sulky 'allo. River's been all wrapped up in archaeological work recently and every time he's bothered to show up [less and less frequently], she's got no time for him. He knows when he's not wanted, and it's a nice day. Hoorah for the beach.

"I should have tried one much sooner, handy things those hatches." She gives a self satisfied little shrug and then peers at him over the shades.
"Oh, if you're planning on killing, kidnapping or generally harming me by the way, I'll warn you now - I've had my quota for the month already. Besides I could probably blow you over anyway." Her trademark smile of shiny white teeth punctuating the end of that tactless statement.

The Doctor flashes the woman a bright grin, laughing softly. The tactlessness is actually pretty refreshing. It means he doesn't have to be hyper-concerned with saying the wrong thing at the wrong time.
"What? No, no, I'm not planning on killing, kidnapping or harming anyone, why in the world would I do that? You didn't do anything." He raises an eyebrow at the 'blow you over' remark, smirking, "Well, maybe, but I generally don't go around picking fights with people I don't know."

"Still, best to get it out in the open from the beginning if you hold a grudge and I've forgotten you. Believe me, wouldn't be the first time that's happened." Vala rolls her eyes and immediately backtracks, "Complete misunderstanding of course, you know how it is."
"There's a hatch not too far away, actually," she gestures behind her. "Just at the edge of the beach, you could get me another one too, with more rum." She knew she'd done something not quite right.
"Seeing as how you know your Earth cocktails so well, and I clearly don't..." Her smile says please, at least. It's a start.
