006: [holo] glitchy mind

May 19, 2009 15:47

There's a little kid wandering around Taxon. He looks incredibly lost, kind of scared, and completely clueless as to where he is. In fact, he's awfully small to be walking around by himself, and while Dean is exactly the type of six year old to pretend like he's big and brave and strong, he's actually sort of terrified.

There's no remembering that ( Read more... )

Charlie has been spending the day exploring, now that the Qe'tesh ordeal is over. She's beginning to understand the districts as she effortlessly memorises where things are; having just found the Burnt Toast Diner in Osten, she is going straight back to Bobby's to tell everyone - that is until she hears a kid calling out, and then she veers a little off-course.

He's young and oddly familiar - something about the way he's dressed, maybe. "Hey, are you lost?"

Dean jumps, and looks around himself nervously. The girl coming up to him looks harmless enough, and while he is wary of strangers, it's nice to see someone not completely terrifying. His voice is as brave as he can make it when he speaks.

"No, I'm not lost," Dean insists, folding his arms. "Who are you?"

Charlie laughs kindly. She knows all about precocious children, having been one herself, so her tone is genuine and not merely humouring. "I'm Charlie, and if you're not lost, then your mom and dad must be. Do you want help finding them?"

Dean stares at her for a minute more, judging her, and then decides that she doesn't look like she's a bad person. Keeping his arms crossed, he says:

"Yeah, I guess so. I'm not aposed to hit girls, but I'm gonna be mean if you're mean." He warns.

Mary is in the kitchen reading one of Bobby's books when she hears Dean's voice on the tablet. She leaves the book open but immediately clicks it to see his hologram, hoping he'll be comforted by hers. She didn't let him leave the house by himself, but she's more worried about making sure he's okay than she is about blaming John or Sam if they gave him permission.

"I'm right here, Dean," she says in the most soothing tone of voice she can manage. "Where are you?"

"Mama!" Dean exclaims, expression brightening. He's definitely comforted by the fact that he can see her. Watching the hologram with a bit of a fascinated look, Dean shrugs.

"I dunno," and then he whispers: "I think I'm lost. I'm sorry, mama, I didn't mean to."

John was upstairs when he heard Dean's voice on the tablet. Immediately he started downstairs, switching the tablet to voice to talk to Dean. "Son, it's okay. I'm going to come get you."

He switched the tablet off and tromped into the kitchen. "Mary, you hear that?"

"I heard you, John. Use the map and go get him," Mary replies, not looking away from Dean's image. "I'm not mad at you, but I miss you," she tells Dean, hearing John head out. "Your dad's going to come get you and then he'll bring you right home. Everything is fine."

He keeps telling himself that he won't get involved, but it's near impossible in such close quarters. Dean is alone and having another 'moment' - leaving him there in that state, assuming someone else will find him, would be irresponsible. Castiel makes sure to appear far enough away so as not to startle him.

"Dean."

When Castiel pops up, Dean's expression is relieved and maybe even a little teary. In seconds, there is a Dean-shaped burr attached to Castiel's trenchcoat and leg.

"Uncle Cas! You found me!"

The angel looks down at Dean as he does this, hesitantly putting a supposed-to-be comforting hand on the back of of the child's head.

"You shouldn't be out here alone."

Dean stays where he is, hugging a little more tightly. The hand on his head does help, and it even reminds him a little of John. A little sniffle escapes Dean, and he buries his face in Castiel's coat.

"I don't know where I am. I lost home."

"Not again."

Andy half-muttered to himself, strongly resisting the urge to beat his head against the wall he was standing near. He'd been stuck with two choices: either find Sam, or catch up with Dean--the kid Dean-- and then find Sam to deal with it. Honestly, this kind of situation was about the furthest you could possibly go from Andy's comfort zone. Not only tracking down a kid, but a younger version of somebody he knew, and then trying to convince the guy in question to sit still while he was freaking out over his younger brother who was now older than him ( ... )

When Dean spots Andy, he does look less afraid. He doesn't quite trust strangers, though, and while it's not that he doesn't like Andy, it's just, Andy is a guy and Dean feels the need to be grown up and manly around him. Because Andy is older. So, shoving his hands in his pockets, Dean watches Andy approach, trying to look as casual as a six year old can.

"Duh. I'm me. Who else would I be?" Dean asks, rolling his eyes. "Man, for a grown up, you're kinda dumb."

"And for an adult, you're kind of short," Andy retorted, failing to fight back a sigh this time. How was he supposed to deal with this? How? "Listen, uh..." he let the sarcasm fall away, "You're still looking for your brother, right?"

He asked the question casually, though he already knew the answer. With the way Andy was thinking, it might be easier to keep an eye on him (...was this even necessary?) if Dean thought he was just tagging along to help him look for Sam. Depending on how much he remembers afterward, Dean's totally gonna owe him one hell of a favour.

"Because-- well, because if you are? I think I know where to look."

That insult sort of goes right over Dean's head, and he regards Andy with a 'wtf' look until Andy changes the subject to Sam. Of course, Dean is always eager to see Sam, even if he suddenly grew to be a bajillion miles high because of some vegetables.

Dean nods when Andy asks him if he's looking for Sam. Of course he is. Trying to keep as calm as possible while Andy continued on, Dean fidgets and sort of shifts around anxiously.

"Where do we look? I don't know where anything is here. It's so big."

"Are you lost?" It's a bit obvious, but Giles has next to no experience with anyone younger then high school age, so he's pretty clueless. "Can I be of assistance?"

"No, I'm not lost," Dean sighs as he turns around to look at Giles, exasperated. How many times does he have to explain this? "Everyone just can't find me, that's all."
