Math Confessions
Zhoumi felt like crying when he made it to his desk that morning. There, written on the just washed surface, was that math equation. He had been seeing it every where lately. On his desk, pieces of paper in his locker and even in his books. Everywhere was 9x-7i>3(3x-7u).
He was at a loss as to why someone would be stalking him with a math equation. He sat down and started trying to erase it. The person mush have used pen because the eraser was doing nothing to it.
Zhoumi just sighed and looked around class. He still had almost 20 minutes before it started. It was mostly empty except for 5 students. Zhoumi studied them thinking it had to be one of them.
He mentally marked off three of the students; he didn’t think they were smart enough for this. It was the other two people he had his eye on. It was two girls and they were some of the smartest in the class. He was just at a lost as to their motive behind the writing of the equation everywhere.
When class ended, Zhoumi hurried and caught up with the two girls. “Jessica, Krystal wait up.”
They stopped and waited for Zhoumi to catch up.
Zhoumi got to them and started fidgeting. “Um, I was just wondering if it was either of you that wrote on my desk.”
They looked at him like he lost his mind.
Jessica spoke first. “What? Why would we write on your desk?”
Krystal spoke up, “And what would we possible want to write.”
Zhoumi paled, he was sure they now thought he was crazy. He pulled out one of his books that had been scribbled on and held it to them.
Jessica grabbed it and they both looked at it.
Zhoumi pointed to the equation, “It’s because of that. Someone has been writing it on everything of mine. You two are the only ones smart enough to even think about using math for anything.”
Jessica just handed the book back. “Nope, I don’t even know what it’s suppose to mean.” she looked at Krystal, “Do you?”
Krystal just shook her head. “No, but we need to go or we will be late for our next class. Bye Zhoumi, I hope you find who it is.”
Zhoumi watched as they walked off. Now he was even more lost on who it could be.
His next three classes proved that who ever did it to his first class desk also marked his desks in his other classes. Zhoumi was at a serious loss at what to do. The fact that it’s on all of his desks would mean they were in all his classes and knew where he sat. Only thing is, there wasn’t one person who was in all of his classes.
By the time lunch came around he had given himself a headache. He spent most the classes staring at the other students trying to figure out who it could be. He found his friend Hangeng sitting at the tree.
Hangeng looked up as Zhoumi got near. “Hey Mi, are you ok? You look like you are worn out.”
Zhoumi plopped down next to him, “I have a headache. The math stalker struck again and I still have no clue as to who it is or why they are writing it everywhere.”
Hangeng asked. “How long has it been since they showed up?”
Zhoumi thought for a second. “About a week, give or take a few days.”
“Did anything happen before that?” Hangeng asked.
Zhoumi sighed. “Nothing that I can connect to the equation.”
Hangeng asked to see the paper again. Zhoumi handed him one of his papers. He didn’t see how looking at it again will help he knew what it would say, 9x-7i>3(3x-7u), he was sure he could recite it till he died. He has seen it so much.
Hangeng spoke up. “Have you tried solving it?”
Zhoumi gave him a dirty look. “Of course I have. After the second day, I started trying to solve it. All I got was random numbers.”
Hangeng nodded and said, “I think I know someone you can talk to about this. He’s a freshman but he’s like a genius.”
Zhoumi gave him an odd look, “Why are you talking to freshmen? And who is this person.”
Hangeng smirked, “I don’t personally know him, Yesung does. His name is Kibum and he is like this super wiz. Yesung told me a lot of the freshmen are freakin’ smart this year.”
Zhoumi thought for a minute, “You think he can help? Also, why is Yesung hanging with smart people?”
Hangeng gave him a playful hurt look, “Hey now I’m just dating him I don’t have to explain his friends and yes I think he can help. We have to see him after school though. That’s the only time I know where we can find him.”
Zhoumi nodded, “Ok, I’ll meet you outside your last class.”
The bell rang signaling the end of lunch. Hangeng got up and started heading back. He turned and yelled, “Don’t be late either!” and ran to class.
The rest of the day past relatively event free, only thing that set him back were the teachers. They decided it was now up to him to clean his desk since everyday they were messed up. So right when class ended, he ran to Hangeng’s class.
He saw Hangeng waiting outside his class room talking with Yesung. Zhoumi rushed up interrupting, “Hey guys, I have to clean my desk before I can leave. Do you mind waiting?”
It was Yesung that answered, “We can’t be too late because after a certain time Kibum will refuse to answer anyone.”
Zhoumi gave him a confused look. “He won’t? Why?”
Yesung sighed “Because in about 30 minutes Heechul is getting out of his after school activity. When that happens him and Kibum play video games for like 2 hours. If anyone trys to get in the way they have to deal with a lot from those two. So its better to get there before then.”
Zhoumi started panicking “Could you call him and explain its urgent? Please!?”
Yesung looked at Hangeng. He was giving him a pleading look also. Yesung sighed, pulled his phone out and said, “Fine, but hurry. I’m going to go ahead, go there and stall him.”
Zhoumi gave him a hug yelling “Thank You!” and ran off to clean the desks.
Luckily he was in such a determined mood that it took only 30 minutes to clean most of the pen off. He raced to the computer lab where Yesung said they would be.
He found the right door and went in. It wasn’t hard to find the people he was looking for. Only three people were in there and Heechul’s red hair gave him away. Zhoumi walked up to see a smaller male sitting at the computer directly behind Heechul so they were back to back. He assumed this was Kibum.
Yesung proved him right by waving him over and saying, “Zhoumi this is Kibum. Hurry and ask him what you want to know.”
Zhoumi quickly pulled out the paper with the equation on it. He handed it to Kibum, who was silently looking at him, he has yet to speak.
Kibum looked at the paper, looked at Zhoumi and looked at the paper again. Zhoumi was getting nervous. He was so tense that when Kibum spoke he jumped a little.
“Where did you get this?” Kibum finally asked.
Zhoumi was surprised how deep this guys voice was. “It’s been all over my desks, papers and even in my locker. I have no idea what it is or what it means.”
Kibum started laughing. He turned in the chair and got Heechul’s attention. “Hey Chul, Does this look familiar?” and handed him the paper.
Heechul stopped what he was doing and looked at it. He looked at Kibum and started laughing. Zhoumi failed to see the humor in this. He looked at Yesung. He just shrugged.
Kibum finally stopped laughing enough to say, “If you want to know who is doing this, get to class at least 45 minutes early.”
Zhoumi gave him an accusing look and said. “You know what this means and who is doing this don’t you?”
Kibum just laughed, handed him the paper back and went back to his game ignoring him.
Zhoumi knew when it was a lost cause. He just stormed out the computer lab and went home. He decided to get to class early and see if this Kibum was right.
~~~~~~~
Zhoumi wanted to catch this person so instead of 45 minutes early he got to school a hour early. He wasn’t the first person there, but there weren’t many others.
He camped at around a corner near his first class with a clear view to the door. He was sitting there for around 20 minutes, when he heard footsteps. He moved back to make sure he was hidden enough.
The person who had walked to the door had him stunned. It was Kyuhyun, the freshman he had a crush on ever since he saw him in music class. His mind was racing as to what Kyuhyun was doing here. ‘Could he know he liked him and is writing the equation everywhere to mess with him? He does like to be a loud mouth to me, but why go thru the trouble and out of his way just to annoy me?’
I silently walked toward the open door and stuck my head in. Sure enough, there was Kyuhyun writing on my desk. Zhoumi yelled before he could write much, “Hey! What are you doing?”
Kyuhyun screamed and the pen flew out of his hand. He turned and looked at me like a deer caught in headlights, “Zhoumi, what are you doing here this early?”
Zhoumi walked toward him, “I’m here early to catch the person stalking me with this math equation and it looks like I found him.”
Kyuhyun just stood there, eyes looking for an escape. “I have no idea what you are talking about, I was just passing thru.”
Zhoumi snorted. “You liar, I saw you writing on my desk and I happen to know your first period class is no where near mine.” Zhoumi didn’t realize the mistake he made.
Kyuhyun stopped looking around and looked right at Zhoumi. Zhoumi suddenly had shivers down his spine. “You know where my class is?”
Zhoumi paled when he realized what he said. “Umm, no?”
Kyuhyun crossed his arms over his chest. “It seems we both have stuff that needs to be explained.”
Zhoumi gave him a piercing stare, “Fine, but you first. Why have you been writing that one equation over all my stuff?”
Kyuhyun started fidgeting, “I was hoping you would solve it yourself.”
Zhoumi snorted, “I did solve it. It was just a bunch of numbers and letters.”
Kyuhyun looked at him again and said, “Did you solve it solve or did you reduce it?”
Zhoumi answered, “I just solved it. I didn’t think about reducing it; Is that what I had to do?”
Kyuhyun just sighed and sat down, “Here, this is what you were supposed to do.”
Zhoumi watched as Kyuhyun started reducing the equation on a piece of paper. The finished result had Zhoumi looking from the paper to the blushing Kyuhyun.
Zhoumi started blushing and asked, “Is that true? Do you?”
Kyuhyun just nodded then, gave a shriek when Zhoumi launched himself on him.
Zhoumi was so happy. He was babbling to Kyuhyun. “I like you to; I have for a while”
Kyuhyun face turned a deeper red and pushed Zhoumi off of him. “Why didn’t you say anything before this? I’ve been sneaking around putting that equation everywhere, hoping you would figure it out. I was almost ready to give up.”
Zhoumi pouted, “I didn’t say anything because you never let on you felt the same. I thought the person who was doing this hated me because I kept getting into so much trouble from the teacher.”
Kyuhyun mutter “Sorry about that”
Zhoumi suddenly remembered yesterday, “Hey, does Kibum have anything to do with this?”
Kyuhyun looked up startled “You know Kibum?”
Zhoumi shook his head, “No, My friend’s boyfriend is friends with him though. When I couldn’t figure out what this was, my friend suggested I go to him. I did and all I got was him laughing and him telling me to come to school early.”
Kyuhyun narrowed his eyes, “That bastard!”
Zhoumi gave him a nervous look “You know him?”
Kyuhyun replied, “Yea, I know him. He’s my freaking brother. He’s the one that helped me with that equation.”
Zhoumi looked at him in surprise, “Your brother? Wow.”
Kyuhyun just hung his head and muttered something about a traitor.
Zhoumi had a sudden thought, “Say Kyuhyun, since I like you and you like me, does this mean we can date?”
Kyuhyun looked up blushing again, “Uh, If you think you want to date a snaky, game absorbed guy then, I don’t think I can say no.”
Zhoumi squealed and hugged him again, “Yes, I want to date you.”
Kyuhyun started tapping him on the back, “Mi, I can’t breath.”
Zhoumi let go looking embarrassed “Oh sorry. I’m just happy. Hey lets go outside we have like 20 minutes left before class. We can talk some more.”
Kyuhyun nodded and started walking to the door. He stopped, shyly walked back to Zhoumi and grabbed his hand. He headed out the door, blushing cherry red with an equally blushing Zhoumi being pulled along.
They left a scrap piece of paper lying on the desk for anyone who walked by to see, containing a reduced equation, confessing their feelings.
