Title: Anyone's Ghost (1 of 3)
Pairing: Sooseop
Rating: PG, future angst
Summary: Three connected poem-inspired ficlets. I'll try my best to post one a day.
i carry your heart with me
i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)
E. E. Cummings
Kiseop and Soohyun meet because their mothers are best of friends and also neighbors. Soohyun first sees Kiseop when the younger boy is just four and beginning to talk. Kiseop is pretty quiet however, so most of the time Soohyun talks and Kiseop listens. It works. In a park near their houses, they have a world of their own. Battles are fought, wars are waged, and sometimes a Kiseop is saved from a vicious dragon by a Soohyun.
They go to same elementary school, then the same middle school, then the same high school. Despite an age difference of nearly two years, the boys end up in the same grade. Soohyun had started later than normal while Kiseop had gone a little faster. Soohyun and Kiseop become best of friends during that time. One is rarely seen without the other. If Soohyun is mentioned, Kiseop invariably comes up in the conversation and vice versa. They are not two separate people, one called Soohyun and the other Kiseop. They are a single entity, they are SoohyunandKiseop.
It's not that they don't have other friends, far from it. Each boy is fairly popular in his own right. However there is a one difference. Friends they could lose. Each other they could not. Together, they get into the same university albeit with different majors. Soohyun picks music while Kiseop chooses photography. After graduation, it's a small cramped apartment until Soohyun begins to get some regular gigs and Kiseop starts to gain a bit of recognition for his pictures. They move to an open, airy studio where soundproof walls mean Soohyun can sing all he wants and a dark room means Kiseop no longer has to plunge the whole apartment into darkness when he wants to develop pictures. Life is good.
By that point, they are more than friends, more than lovers even. "I think we're soul mates," Kiseop announces one day when they're sunbathing on the balcony. Soohyun just rolls his eyes. "Stop being such a romantic sap." But he agrees and Kiseop knows.
A/N: Title stolen from the song by the same name by The National. I am procrastinating for such important exams... This is a great idea, promising to write fanfiction instead. -nods-
