Feb 01, 2010 23:22

In case you haven't seen it, Oliver Grigsby has posted the first part of a series of posts about the episode he wrote, "Pass/Fail" on 9th Wonders. The first part is mainly about the Sylar/Claire scenes so I thought it might interest us here ( Read more... )

Actually, I think it's been established in the show that Sylar is left-handed. Claire remarked on the fact that "Nathan" signed into the hotel with his left hand in "An Invisible Thread", saying that she thought Nathan was right-handed, and I also remember Matt and Sylar writing with different hands when they were sitting in the Burnt Toast diner.

So the handedness is intriguing. It's possible that the director wanted ZQ to write on the board with his right hand because it suited the camera angle better, but it would be nicer to think that someone on set is paying attention and the right-handedness is either a vestige of Nathan, or a sign that Sylar is a different person now (assuming that Gabriel Gray was right handed but Sylar isn't... erm, actually, that wouldn't be a great statement to make about lefthandedness :).

So who has a 9th wonders account and can ask the writer himself? :)

The fanfictionista in me likes this - I've always kinda pictured Sylar as the left-handed one while Gabriel preferred his right. I've got a new multi-chapter that I've got a start on (I'll be full steam on it, I think, after this last chapter of AFDF is done) where I thought about bringing that up. It's really neat to see it talked about here =D

He's implying that *he* wrote the episode as Claire and Gretchen being lovers, but it sounds as if someone else got cold feet about that (viz the kiss vs hand-holding element). So how it will actually play out in the long run - well, over the three remaining episodes :) - is another matter.

On the one hand, I'm so-so about characters who had het relationships suddenly turning gay (especially as they're *never* guys, grrr :), but OTOH, Claire's relationships with men have always been pants, from the guy who tried to rape her to stalker!West, plus Sylar cutting her head open and her dad repeatedly lying to her, so I could see her feeling somewhat safer with a girl at this point in her life, whatever her original orientation.

Of course, that's absolutely not how they've built up the Gretchen/Claire relationship on screen, so I'm just talking theoretically. What happens on screen only vaguely affects the far superior story in my head anyway. :D

Didn't someone post an answer out here somewhere a while back when they asked him about Gretchen and Claire on twitter and he kinda implied... the opposite? That they weren't exactly entering into a relationship, other than Claire had finally found someone she could open up to and trust? Or is my old, faulty memory acting up again (which wouldn't surprise me... my imagination likes to trick it on a regular basis...)

Sheesh... what I'd give to see the dailies he mentioned. /sigh

Great interview though, I love behind the scenes insight :D

I liked the ZQ mancrush he has too <3 I like how he described how obviously crushed Sylar was as Claire & Gretchen skipped off into the sunset holding hands - like he was an enabler who'd hoped to receive.

Hell I'd have a mancrush on Zach if I were a man. Happily I am female and thus do not have to resort to such precautionary labels. XD

It truly was a brilliant 5 seconds of screen time, and I kiss the floor before his acting talent. *crushes*
