...Even if I don't like ninety-nine percent of the people in this damn city, some of you are tolerable, at least. Moreso than I give you credit for.

It's merely easier to ignore or insult and be on my way than it is to actually deal with people. I'm very poor at anything remotely social and I prefer not to make a fool of myself by trying to be ( Read more... )

don't take me lightly, i cannot tell a lie, truth time, affected, some of you aren't so bad, bastard is better than weakling, protection ftw, regret, curse, socially inept, trust is dangerous

Wow. I sure hope I fall under tolerable.

...Surprisingly enough, you do. So far. Although I had a very bad first impression of you when you convinced Ahiru to sneak off without saying a word and brought her back here well past midnight.

I didn't really know about you then but you still have my apologies for that.

...I know. I haven't really held it against you that much since.

So that's how you've gotten that reputation for your hot temper. Interesting.

...I don't need a reputation for that. I have a terrible temper, regardless.

Good point. That was always easy to see. Of course, I'm not exactly known for my patient temperament back at the Academy, either....

Wait, no, that's not what I was going to say!

...You might as well get used to saying things you don't mean to say until the curse is over.

You... despise 99% of the people in this City..?

...

So you despise me too..?

sword_and_quill May 1 2008, 03:19:37 UTC
...No. I have no reason to despise you. And if you've been friendly to Ahiru, then I owe you my thanks. She doesn't seem to have many female acquaintances in this city. And the males are far less tolerable.

Ah-ah~ That's a relief..! I thought I'd upset you the other day... when we first met...

..? Ahiru-san doesn't have many female friends..? Hmn... same with me I think... Most of the people I've met in this City are guys... What makes you think they're... "less tolerable"? :o

Not really. You took me by surprise, more than anything.

If she does have more female friends, she's doing a good job of hiding them. As for the guys, they're far less trustworthy when it comes to befriending a girl and will often have ulterior motives.

They probably think it's worth the risk, to be able to trust like that. The world's a brighter place for it. I think a part of me grieves that I can't be that trusting anymore.

sword_and_quill May 1 2008, 03:29:16 UTC
...Perhaps. I could understand that if the risk was being taken solely for oneself. But the majority of people who can't be trusted are underhanded enough that they will target people that have nothing to do with the situation at all.

Sometimes I wish I could trust and be at ease with doing so. But it's just not possible in a place like this.

Well, for someone who truly trusts, it's not something that can be turned on or off so easily. Although I could wish for a bit more care... But I suppose that's what soldiers -- and knights-- are for, to be vigilant and take the shadows into themselves so that others may live their lives freely.

No, unfortunately not in this place. But at least most of the untrustworthy people here are pretty damn evident about it.

...I know. But some people don't even want to try to exercise a little more hesitation in that area. And I never thought of it that way, but you make a decent point.

Hn, that's true on some level. Although even the ones that aren't open about it can sometimes slip up on a curse day.

Mm... the one you're protecting must be really special to you, Fakir. And really lucky too. You're like a knight who protects the princess in the stories.

... a-and I guess I'm one of those who trust too much... I think...

They are. Very much. ...I don't know about lucky, though.

Well, I am an ex-knight, but that's beside the point. Protecting is more than just the duty I used to consider it.

You really should be careful who you trust, Suu. Many people here will gladly take advantage of anyone willing--or even unwilling, in some cases.

Oh! A real knight! Wow... um, ex?

But everyone has been really nice to me. I remembered everyone here. Count is a vampire, but he's really nice too. How do you know who to trust?

Yes, a former knight. I failed as one.

You can't know who is trustworthy and who isn't. That's the biggest problem. Everything involves a risk. Personally, I'll try to find information on anyone suspicious or even not. Sometimes that helps and sometimes it doesn't.
