I have a new phone!

Jun 28, 2011 00:06

I have finally entered the world of the smartphone. It was about time, too. I used the same dumbphone for the last four years. Wow. Anyway, I'm just testing the LJ app and posting something quick. Any recs on what to do with this thing/Android apps to download are welcome.

how do i tag this, via ljapp

I'd give you suggestions if I knew anything about smartphones. But, even here in Korea, I am still stuck in dumbphoneland.

My Korean phone is still rather nice for a dumbphone though.

My old phone was four years old, so it was definitely not all that nice for a dumbphone by 2011 standards. I should extract the SD card before doing something with it, though.

I think my phone is from like 2008 so it's not particularly shiny by Korean standards. It was still one of the nicer models back then so it's more impressive than say... the cheap prepaid phones the other exchange students have.

I'm not sure if some iPhone apps transfer over, but DocsToGo is pretty amazing. You can edit Word Docs on your phone, then sync it to the copy on your desktop, and vice versa. I use it all the time, and it's well worth the $10 I spent.

Also love Evernote, Wunderlist, Last.fm, and my calculator and dictionary apps.

I swore up and down I'd never get a smartphone, but then... yep. It should just be attached to my arm at this point.

I'm sure quite a few iPhone apps have equivalents in Androidland. DocsToGo wouldn't be of much use to me since I don't use Word (or Windows, for that matter--I'm a Linux girl). I did download Last.fm on the way back from the store. Don't worry, I wasn't driving.

Ahhh, okay. Well - the last.fm app is amazing, and I adore it, but you do need to be a subscriber to stream it. But considering it uses your library to stream music, I would say it's like having a few GBs added to your phone, so it's been worth the fee to me.

But it was free like six months ago, boo.

Apparently, Angry Birds eats souls and the new age movement sells a lot of apps.

HELL OR HEAVEN IT IS YOUR CHOICE XD.

My brother put Angry Birds on my mom's new phone. I walked out there this evening, and there she was playing it, laughing and trying to get those pigs. Me, I refuse. For now. I already have enough distracting shinies as it is.

The mental image that you just created in my mind is so very hilarious. I remember watching my Chinese friend play this while I was twiddling my thumbs uselessly at a student film shooting. She kept failing even though she was trying so hard. I'm not going to lie... it was really amusing.
