It had been almost a year since the entire ordeal with the boat and Nate getting arrested. At first he thought he was trying to get better, but really he was just trying to get Sophie to think he was. It took longer than that

Sophie got Nate's call and frowned a bit. She wasn't sure why something would be sent to Nate's place, but she started to make a detour and head over to his place. When she got there, she knocked on the door lightly.
He watched her go, uncertain if she should go after her or not. For the time being he just let her go. He watched her walk away though, and leaned forward on his knees to rub his knuckles together.
Sophie didn't make it very far. She just made her way about halfway down the hall and pulled out her cell phone. She wasn't expecting an answer, but she had to call, just in case she wasn't too late. She found Bela's number, and placed the phone against her ear as she waited.
Sophie was sitting in the hallway, just staring at the phone, almost as though she was trying to will the person on the other end to answer, but it wasn't working. Instead, she just slumped back against the wall, trying to keep herself from crying, again.
Nate watched her for a moment, before continuing over and moving to sit beside her. He didn't put his arm around her, or touch her, or speak. He just sat beside her and waited for her to use him however she needed, or to just ignore him. It wasn't that he didn't want to put his arms around her, seeing the look on her face, but he was trying so hard to be patient with everything concerning Sophie. The truth was, he was really really worried at the moment.
It didn't take her long, really. The reality of the situation hit her, and it wasn't long before she was curling into him, looking for some kind of support as the tears started to slip free. Nate wasn't the ideal at the moment, given all the issues between them, but he was there, and as of right now, that was better than nothing at all.
She knew he wanted to be, but there were still too many unfinished things hanging between them. She couldn't really just throw herself into this again. Not until those things were resolved. But she could take this, and she just clung to him until she cried herself out.
He got up and helped her to her feet, before guiding her back into the apartment. He just held her elbow though, not wanting to push into her personal space.
"Nate. It's me."

Nate got to his feet and watched in her wake, rubbing the back of his neck and debating for a bit, before slowly walking after her.

His arm moved around her shoulders and he pulled her in closer, dropping his forehead to the top of her head as he held her close.

He just stayed close for as long as she needed him.
