Definitely, would make that feature a lot less cumbersome.

I recently got to over 500 on my friends list, and was distressed that I lost the userinfo functionality. I think it's very useful for people to see someone's userinfo page and see highlighted usernames of friends they have in common with that person.

This suggestion is an improvement on what LJ currently does, but doesn't really solve th problem. Directory searches take a long time, even without all the userpics, and most people won't know about the change and won't click on the link anyhow. Also, it won't bold the names of people who are their friends too.

Why can't Friends be treated similarly to Friend Of? When the list gets too long, show a partial list with an ellipsis at the end that links to the full userinfo page, and on the full userinfo page, show the whole friends list.

Of course I replied below before reading this. I would actually rather have this than a directory page. But either way of just making it a list of names without the blasted pictures would be great.

I agree with this, very much. I'm just curious, why was the directory search (with userpics) thing implimented in the first place, anyway? It seems like a really cumbersome way to handle large friends lists.

YES YES DEAR GODS YES.

I *hate* the current directory search page that pops up. Dude, I just want a list of usernames!
