Ah, I like the distinction between maximizer and perfectionist. I have to habitually remind myself to expect failure from myself in order to stay happy in research. ^_^

Was told by the head of an invitation-only science summer camp I attended in high school that I'd never make a good scientist because I react badly to setbacks. Was pretty crushed at the time. In retrospect that guy may have been right, but he was also a raging misogynist.

I think that's a pretty cruel thing to say to a high school student, whether it's true or not. -_- (The raging misogynist part reminds me of the math team coach who told me to my face that girls can't do math.)

It's soooooo easy. And I tell myself these things weren't making it to LJ anyway - I'd write them down as notes to myself, and fail to type them up as full posts.
