I think, as exemplified by the lowly bank employee who pulls, what was it, an automatic? Semi-automatic? On Joker, the extreme fucked up state of Gotham is just so much a part of the citizens they probably wouldn't know how to live anywhere else.

As for the girl thing, dude. I don't know. I mean, Barbara was right there. Why go out of the way to establish little boy Gordon when most of the people watching and involved in the making know the little girl you also saw fit to include even though you totally ignored her is Batgirl? I mean, it had to have been worth the homage value, you'd think. I think that bit was the ultimate symbol of the girl issue, the audience staring Barbara Gordon right in the face and it totally being passed over.

Muppet Christmas Carol is legitimately good. And I've always adored the Muppet of Christmas Present. It makes me so happy to see him.

I think it might have been the bank manager? I always figured that since he worked in a bank that was connected to the mob, he had to be prepared for this kind of thing - his rant about how criminals used to believe in something makes me think that robberies and intergang violence has been on the up. So I guess I didn't extrapolate from him to everyone else in Gotham? But even so, I'd be expecting a few really tough townspeople to keep hanging out there, not for it to be nearly as populated as it seems to be.

I kind of want to think up some explanation a la Uzumaki about how the same thing that's drawing all this evil and harm to Gotham is the same thing that keeps people from leaving, but that's just me putting crossovers into everything

I guess. I just loved that guy and love the idea of Gotham citizens being so hardened as to be that kind of prepared. The rest of the world is just not ready for even the innocents of Gotham. Like you suggested, "the same thing that's drawing all this evil and harm to Gotham is the same thing that keeps people from leaving

The allergic to girls bit is why I will never watch another Nolan film, especially not the Batman ones. And seriously people, there HAS to be a better city out there to live in!
