Who: Yuri Lowell (vesperiaftw) and (Rita Mordio foul_moods) What: Yuri gives Rita gifts and drags her out to eat Where: Room 3-15, then moving to a random restaurant When: Soon after this thread. Warnings: Probably none?
Before the door could relay the message, Rita interrupted it with the go ahead to let him in and promptly ignored its grumblings about rude interruptions in favor of stacking more books.
At the moment, her room looked more like a messy library than anything. The desk had long been lost to ever higher piling books and a long stack of papers and folders. What appeared to also be a laptop had been added on top, the blinking lights adding to the scant light cast off by her lamps hunched over her work station on the floor. The only other decoration to the room was a small fridge which, undoubtedly, held more science materials than actual food.
Rita herself was looking better since the video having obviously showered and changed clothes. When the door opened to admit Yuri, she glanced in his direction and blinked at his armful.
Yuri shrugged, though it was a little awkward, before dropping the things he was carrying onto her bed. "I made you some sandwiches, too. At least you'll have something to eat in here." Not that he was counting on her remembering to eat them, but at least she'd have food she didn't have to leave the room for. "I'd give you stuff to cook, but you probably wouldn't bother even if I did." Not unless he were standing over her making sure she did it, at least.
He sorted though the packages carefully. "These are the sandwiches. Here are the cookies." Yuri picked up the only actually gift-wrapped one and offered it to her. "This one is your actual gift." He hadn't done the greatest job wrapping, or he suspected he hadn't, but he'd heard it was customary and so he'd tried. If it involved rather a lot of tape, at least it stayed on and looked sort of festive, if you liked that kind of thing.
Silently, Rita touched the wrapping of the present before taking it into her hands looking... strange.
Her eyes seemed to take on a solemn air for a moment, her fingers sliding over the brightly colored wrapping before she glances at the rest of the packages on the bed. After several moments, she glanced at Yuri with the strangest, almost hostile, expression possible.
"What?" Yuri managed to sound offended, attempting a tone of wronged innocence, even if it probably wasn't entirely believable. "I can't be nice to you without an ulterior motive?" Though he didn't really have one, at least not something concrete. Sure, Rita might be useful in the future, for plans he hadn't even made yet, but that wasn't the reason. She was one of their own and he tried to make sure she didn't kill herself - nothing more complicated than that.
And as for the gift, he didn't think anything of it. You were supposed to give gifts to your friends for this holiday, or so he'd heard. It would have been odder to not get one for Rita than to buy her something, especially when he'd gotten gifts for everyone else.
"Terca Lumireis is gone, Estelle is safe and Alexei's dead. There's no point in staying in contact anymore." Though her words were logical and nothing but the harsh truth, there was a hesitation in the underlying as she spoke. A soft hint that indicated she didn't quite feel that way, not as much as she made it sound.
Truth be told, she'd come to value the camaraderie their group had, not only just because of Estelle but also because of the feeling of belonging to a group. To know someone had your back that you could trust. Part of her cried out that she was trying to shove that away, a part of herself that she feared.

"I thought it was cookies and a present."
