I've booked with Expedia, Travelocity and Orbitz and all have been fine. It does include all the tax and everything, the only thing you would have to pay for would be room service and the like, i.e., the sorts of things you would expect to pay in addition to the room rate anyway.
That's what I figured... I just wanted to check due to the wording, and also because of the fact you have to pay everything in advance, and if you're not satisfied with the hotel after the first night, you don't have much room to negotiate.
I booked my hotel room via Expedia 2 or 3 years ago for a trip to Montreal. 2 months ago my sister went to Montreal. Booked the same hotel with Expedia. No problem.
Expedia covered all the taxes associated with the room itself. Or in our case, where the breakfast was provided to all the guests, we didn't pay for our breakfast taken in the hotel. We didn't order any room services, so we didn't pay anything extra upon check-out.
In your case, I would find out if by being a guest at that hotel, you could use the exercise room or not. If you could, then chances are you don't have to pay extra, But if you could not, I think you could have to pay extra regardless whether you book your room using Expedia or not.
It wasn't the exercise room specifically, that was just an example. I think it was just the wording I was worried about.
Also, as I mention with above, it seems to say that if you cancel after you check in, you basically have no leg to stand on. If we aren't happy with the hotel, we can't just leave.
Having said that, I think I've done enough homework that I know I won't be disappointed, but there's always that little bit of anxiety.
I was looking through old e-mails and I just realized we'd booked our Toronto hotel with Expedia.ca in May 2006. Taxes were definitely included :) After paying Expedia, we only had to pay the hotel for extras that we used (in our case there was an extra for parking since we rented a car, but that was all).
Thanks! I knew the taxes were included but just worried about the wording on the site.
I had read one review at a Banff property where they booked with an online service and hated the resort and felt they didn't have any leeway since you have to pay it all in advance. I guess that's the biggest problem, but we're not staying anywhere longer than three days so I don't expect that it would be a big deal.
I've had good luck with Expedia, as well. The price you pay does include taxes. But be prepared to have the hotel make a copy of your credit card, in case you do incur other charges. I was concerned the first time that happened, not expecting it (after all, Expedia had my charge number, so why should the hotel?) But I've never had a hotel abuse that privilege.
Oh, that's not a big deal with me. I used to work in a hotel, I know the drill. It was just the wording I worried about a bit, and the fact I'd never reserved with something online. Now that I know others who have had no troubles, I'll go ahead and book.

(But that might not be all that relevant, since a price that doesn't include taxes is pretty much unheard of around here.)
