Parvati had been unaccountably tired lately, and she'd acquired a habit of drinking coffee halfway through the day to perk herself up a bit. Today, it wasn't sitting at all well in her stomach.
She hear the door to the staffroom open, and smiled as she recognized her best friend, who she hardly saw at work any more.
She hadn't expected the embrace, and nearly lost her balance, but she clung to Lavender, pleased at the affectionate gesture. "You all right, Lav? I mean, it's good to see you too."
Lavender hugged Parvati tightly, then kissed her cheek before she pulled back.
"I'm fine. More than fine. Brilliant, even." Lavender bit her lip, nearly bouncing on the balls of her feet. "I'm so glad I found you! I couldn't wait a minute longer to tell you."
"Tell me what?" Parvati asked, a little startled by the warmth Lavender was showing. This was more of what she was like back at school, before Parvati the war had dampened a lot of their girlish enthusiasm.
Now that the time came for Lavender to tell Parvati, she didn't know how exactly she was supposed to put it. So many good emotions today were making her almost light-headed.
She held up her left hand, showing the ring. "He asked me to marry him."
