Valentine's Day had finally arrived and Ron was glad of it. He'd slept less well than usual last night because he was nervous about his plan going well. Since he asked Lavender out a week ago he had put some thought and energy into trying to make the day special for her. It had the potential to be either really good or a disaster, especially if she didn't like the first part of it, but the first part was really crucial to the whole thing so he wasn't going to back out of that now, especially as the weather was cooperating. It was going to be a decent morning, partly sunny with not too much breeze and it seemed likely there would be no rain until the afternoon. So he was glad Lavender said she preferred sunrise.
Of course in order to make his plan work, he had to get up a good while before sunrise, which wasn't until almost half-past seven. He awoke about quarter to seven, showered, shaved carefully and got dressed in his best jeans and second-best jumper (he would save his best jumper for that night, in case they decided to go out again). No breakfast though; that would happen later.
Ron assembled everything he needed in a small bag and carried that with him out the house, then got onto his broom and flew the short distance to Copper Towers. When he reached the block of flats, he landed, went into the building and up the lift to her flat. Crossing his fingers that everything would go well, he knocked on her door at quarter past seven.
